Default Curing the 3rd gear grind

Hey all,

Well it seems my 3rd gear is starting to go for the worse. I have a '99 Civic SiR (canadian), and it seems that if I am switching gears from 2nd to 3rd at high rpms (5500+), the shifter does not want to engage, and as you guessed it, makes a lovely grinding sound.

The car is equipped with the stock B16a2 engine and I believe S21 transmission (I believe). I couldn't find a definitive answer. What should I look into replacing in order to cure the 3rd gear grind, other than the synchronizer?

As much detail as possible here would be greatly appreciated! (part numbers, part names, whatever you can tell me.)

Thanks!!

You'll want to pull it apart first and inspect parts to see just exactly what you need, but chances are you'll at least need the synchro, sleeve/slider and possibly the gear and hub.

my buddy put a GM product called syncromesh (or something like that) in his tranny. drained all the old fluid out, put said new oil in, and voila! no moar third gear grind. give it a shot i guess

^^ Gm synchromesh-friction modified it helps with smoother shifts. Worked well in taking away the grind in my old gsr tranny.
