5 or 6 lbs on completely stock internals is about where you will top out. First and fore-most, the ring landings in h22s are soft, and will fall appart if you get much higher than that, you could prolly squeek it to like 8-9lbs and might get lucky and get a couple thousand miles out of it. But, if you are planning on boosting for any real numbers, i would suggest spending a little bit of money beefin up the internals first.

or you can do some research, op, and see what some of the more experienced boosters say. i've heard 7lbs is the common safepoint, but there are some experienced people that think 10lbs is safe. i don't know either way...do some reading

Its not about how much Boost the motor can handle for one thing. Its how much pressure the motor can handle. 6lbs of boost on 72mm turbo is different than 6lbs of boost on a small DSM turbo.

But really its all about having a conservative tune, and not getting too aggresive with your fuel to air mixture. Talk to the guy tuning your car, he can tell ya more.

good luck man!!!

It makes me cringe these days to see posts like this when ALL of this is covered in the forced induction FAQ. However, for the sake of I have nothing else to do, I will get you pointed in the right direction.

1) Boost is a measure of positive pressure inside the engine. Do not think of "7psi is the safest I can go" that is incorrect. 7psi on a big turbo is wayyyyyyyy different than 7psi on a small turbo. This was explained in an earlyer post.

2) I am a B-series guy, and have limited knowledge on the H22 platform. However, most of our stock engines have the weak point at the piston ring lands. It sounds like this is still the case for you h22 guys. With a proper tune and supporting mods (well engineered turbo system, ENGINE MANAGEMENT, and TUNE), I KNOW you can make 300whp safely.....

3) That being said, you need to venture over to the forced induction forum and READ..... dont be lazy and post crap like this, its an insult to many of us, and we all know that if you are that interested in boosting your car, you should have enough drive to do some reading and find out what is best for your particular situation. WE KNOW NOTHING about you money, time, goals for the car, angry ex-wife, etcc...... you know this information and you should use it to design and plan the best setup for your goals.

I hope this helps

The easiest way to answer this question is zero psi. I can say this because I tried it and blew my ringlands out on a safe 7 psi tune. Nothing is "safe" because there are too many variables, i.e. changes in climate, fuel quality, boost spikes, ect. All these things things effect the tune. I say if your going to do it anyway to have a spare motor built or enough cash to buy one when you stock one blows. And not to mention 7 lbs isnt enough, its just a tease, youll want more. good luck

With a good tuner, and supporting parts, a sub 300whp motor should last a long time.

get a nice turbo kit, professional install, get it dyno tuned really well and run 5psi, that should be a good 240whp, which isnt bad for a little honda, then save your money and buy some pistons, rods, valves, cams, and MAYBE, sleeve your block after you blow it up.
If and engine isnt built for turbo from the factory, it will NEVER be safe to run turbo on stock, NO MATTER how well you tune it. it wont last 200k like DSM do or whatever

dsm and 200k? I thought they were POS

I am buying parts to boost my stock h22a4. I'm probably going 57 trim ebay t3/t4 and be happy with 240whp on a good tune. Read read read, I still have a lot more reading to do before I actually boost it

thanks, i wasn't planning on boosting the h22 just yet, but i was wondering because the nearest tuner to me is 3 hours away so if that was the only chance to tune it i was taking advantage. Most likely getting a 57trim with .67 AR but don't have the $$ to buy another motor, and i just got the car so ill make sure this one is fully ready for boost before i touch it. i just know you can even run up to 7-9 pounds on a stock D series and have it even as your daily driver and it would be fine. Everyone up here does that, but i figured since an H series is way stronger, could handle more boost stock but apparently not Thanks guys

people run ebay turbo's a good bit, I'm not gonna debate about it but if you run oil restrictor it supposedly makes it last a lot longer. I will take my chances, this will be a good learning experience regardless of what happens
