Default Honda Civic Transmission Problems

Hello,

I have a 2000 Honda civic SE with a DX engine in it which has 170 000 KM on it, it also has a manual transmission and its completly stock except for a short ram intake. I have been having some transmission problems recently and was wondering if I should be worried because when I took it to a mechanic and he took the car for a spin he told me I shouldnt worry to much about it and i might need to get it rebuilt soon. Here are the problems I am having.

- when i put it into first gear i hear a cracking noise.

-when i put it into second gear it seems like its ruff and it scrapping.

-when im driving and about to come to a stop and i have the car still in gear but im not pressing the brake or gas and just letting the car slow down at a stop i hear a noise coming from the transmission like if it was touching against something kinda like a winding down noise.

-when i put the car into reverse to back up and i attempt to back up the car some times doesnt move and i need to re attempt it, i find when i push the gear against the side and it seems like its scrapping then it goes into the reverse gear.

my question are
is this a serious problem?

whats wrong with my transmission?

is my transmission about to die on me?

should i get this fixed as soon as possible?

around how much is this gonna cost to fix?

Does the transmission noise go away when the clutch pedal is pushed down?

This is generally a sign of a blown transmission main bearing, usually the input shaft bearing. Check the FAQs sticky.

I was going to say the linkage is rubbing the exhaust and or is bent. Good call on the main shaft bearing Ron.
