gears and final drive out of a M2F4 stuffed into a P2A8 case?
alright, I found a M2F4 on CL for only 100 bucks, but the ad says it needs the synchros replaced. the trans in the car right now (01 ex coupe) is a P2A8 and it shifts nice and smooth with no grinding whatsoever. now I know that people pull gears/final drives out of different B series to get what they want. does this work with the H/F trannys? could I pull the final drive and gearsets out of the M2F4 and use the sleeves/synchros/bearings/etc from the P2A8 and stuff it all back in the P2A8 case?
and finally, Ive never rebuilt a trans before, is there any part of the job that I will need a press for?
from reading I think the only tool I need that is somewhat "special" is a set of snap ring pliers.
I found a rebuild kit for a H22 and it says it works with the M2(Y,U,A,B,F)4 trannys, so if parts swap between all those, Im assuming it wouold work in the P2A8 as well.
I have read on here that someone did a 5th gear swap from a P2.. into a M2.., and that 5th gear had to be machined, but I have read it doesnt have to be machined as well. which is correct? 5th doesnt matter anyways because I am planning on using the accords 5th gear. but does that mean the gears from the M2.. will be too narrow for the P2.. trans (not the gear itself but the peices sticking out from the gear around the shaft, not sure what to call them)
basically I want to take 1st-3rd gearsets and the final drive out of the M2F4, then take the guts out of the P2A8, swap the gearsets using all of the synchros/sleeves/etc...( good stuff that will make it not grind like the M2F4 does now) and put it all back in my case. and since I will be basically putting my trans back together with just different gears on the shaft, but teh same shaft/beariing/etc... I shouldnt have to set any kind of backlash/end play tolerances, should I?
I have an opportunity to go get this on wednesday so if I could find lut the answer by then I would really appreciate it. I think it will really wake the car up because man 3rd gear takes a while to pull through. 4th is a real dog too, and I know the the FD will effectively lower 4th just a bit, but maybe not enough so after I calculate the new ratios I might end up wanting the ludes 4th gear as well. I know I want to stay with the accords 5th gear though, as I know I will NEVER be using 5th gear during a race(drag strip, dont really race on the streets, WAY too many tickets to be doing that...
)
and as for my ability Ive rebuilt a B20 and some VW's, done a auto -> manual swap, and lots of other stuff so even though Ive never done it yet, if I have the right tools just give me the manual, let me go, and I can do it.

ok, so I have found out that I will be trying for the accords 5th only, since 3rd and 4th have to be swapped as a set.
and I have found that the 5th gear from a M2S4, will not go into a M2F4 without modification, and I found out that a M2B4 5th will go into a M2F4.
I found that a P2(U or A, not sure, maybe both)5 5th wont go into a M2F4...
I assume that the .685 5th gear in the A8 is the same as in the A5/U5's.
which would make my 5th gear not able to go into a M2F4 trans. does this mean the I cant take 1/2 and 3/4 out of the M2F4 and put it into the P2A8?
and lastly, I would MUCH rather live with a short 5th of the M2F4 than the tall 1st through 4th of the P2A8. so as a last resort can I do NO gear swaps and just replace synchros and stuff from my P2A8 into the M2F4?
