Double Flare vs AN fitting HELP
It seems that 45 deg double flare fittings used on Honda brake systems is not meant to be removed and reused.
I am not sure but I think that my prop valve fittings are leaking and I suspect this is why.
Does anybody know what that yellow stuff is that is on the prop valve and master cylinder fittings? I suspect it is not threadlocker, but a 'tamper' indicator.
If the fittings are single use only doesn't that sort-of invalidate the whole concept of rebuilt master cylinders?
What about prop valves?
It seems my only option to get a solid braking system is to
1. replace master cylinder.
2. bend/buy new lines to prop valve
3. buy NEW!!! prop valve
4. bend/buy all new lines to Front and REAR!!!
5. replace flex hoses all around.
Finally after all this, I think there is a stopping point. The flex lines connect to the calipers with the banjo fittings and a copper washer, not a double-flare fitting.
Re-flaring is probably not a good option due to the age of the lines.
Thanks Honda for a completely unservicable product. Hmmph.
Apparently AN fittings don't deform the metal in the flares and can be re-used. Tips on this anyone??

What about the components? If the original hardlines are deformed by the sealing torque on a double flare fitting won't the seats on the prop valve and MC be scarred as well?
Has anybody ever undertaken rebuilding a master cylinder (or prop valve)?
It seems you could use this to repair the seats if the parts that fit Honda were available.

Prop valve is what is more concerned about. There is no re-man available. So it's used and take your chances with leaking internal seals and leaking fittings.
$200 new from the dealer hits me pretty hard.

Age has nothing to do with it, as long as they aren't rusty they'll flare just fine
It's a perfectly serviceable product, in all the brake swaps i've done i've never once had an issue with the flare leaking when reused. It's also the same setup Toyota uses, never had any issues with Toyotas leaking at the fittings either. The yellow stuff is just a tamper indicator (or more likely a marker at the factory to show the fittings were tightened) If they're leaking you've damaged the flare, cross threaded the fitting or not threaded it in far enough.

Best parts supplier in my area said it would be $180 and that they were sold out currently. Dealer said it would be special order, whatever that really means.
Has anybody ever used these? Any idea if they are approved/legal for high pressure braking systems?
