Getting paint off Bumper VIN for CHP inspection. Urgent!!
Rear bumber has been painted, the vin number on it is not visible, CHP needs that number otherwise they will consider its stolen and chop it off. The inspection is tomorrow. I was thinking trying to sand it down? Or use acetone? but then its paper... i think acetone will damage it so it will not be readable. Please help, i am in California.
Thank you.
Thank you.
WTF? Never heard of such law. People replace their bumpers all the time and those don't come with VIN. What kind of inspection is this?
Dumb questions..........
California law. Every stock body part comes with a manufacture vin (not the car VIN but the PART vin). The rear bumper has been painted and they sprayed the vin on it as well. CHP automatically assumes it is stolen since i can not prove that i bought it since i dont have the receipt for the bumper and the vin is not visible.
I need help getting the paint off. Thanks

i've had to deal with this be4, it didnt work for me... i used paint thinner and rubbed the vin number lightly to get the paint off of it. but the vin number is actually a stamped number on that little sticker. the paint thinner removed the vin# and the sticker was left blank lol.

can you call the guy that sold it to you?
did you buy it on a credit card? if so then print out the transaction that shows the amount you paid for. did you get it online?
where is the sticker located btw?
i know the newer cars have them on the doors and frame but i dont know where they are on bumpers.

also who painted it? was it a shop? if so then they are liable for it they should be aware of the stickers and that you not supposed to paint over it.
