my power steering pump recently went out, so i removed the belt, and about 2 weeks later i got leaks coming from the power steering rack. I'm not saying this was the cause of it, but i would really like to get an answer to this question as well as i thought about the same thing. BUMP

I ran mine without the belt connected for a few days and it made my PS tank leak all over my shock tower. I think over time it wears the parts out faster.

no it will not harm your rack, just drain all the fluid out of it and take the lines and tank off

plus itll be harder to steer. youll have to be turning not only the wheels but youll be manually moving the pistons inside the rack back and forth instead of the hydro power doing it for you

Taking a car with power steering, and taking the belt/pump off makes it a bitch to drive at low speeds.

driving a car with a manual rack and pinion is TOTALLY different than a PS rack with no PS pump.

I have never had power steering with my Wagon.
It is a power rack with everything taken of it.

My buddy looped his power steering lines to keep a bit of fluid in it and his is alot easier to steer than mine... but he also has a DA with 17"s
