ef hatch starting problem
I recently picked up an ef hatch with an ls for cheap, the guys said they couldn't get it to start and that it just turned. Turns out they weren't using a resistor for the obd0 injectors, so I wired it up and hoped for some magic but the thing won't turn. It has the battery relocated to the back so there may be a problem in the wiring but any other ideas? Ecu flashes, pump kicks on but the starter clicks somtimes when I turn it. Last detail ill add is the tach is beyond redline as if I have a grounding problem, which ground would cause that? All grounds are connected so maybe corrosion could be the cause? Any input helps, thanks.
First what check engine code do you got? Count the blinks on the ecu a long blink=10. a short blink=1
Example: 2 long blinks and 4 quick blinks would be code 24. Example: 6 quick blinks is code 6. So go see wat codes you got and let us kno

My bad I meant the ecu flashes once quick when I turn the key to the 2nd position before starting to show there's power to the ecu. I'm going to clean up the battery ground and tranny ground and go from there. Any idea what ground would cause the tach to max out when I turn the key to 2nd position?
I'm not sure wat ground would cause the tach to redline when the key is turned to on position. Also more details... does the car crank every time you try to start the car or does it only crank sometimes?? Also is the car a si or was it dpfi converted to mpfi?? Wat ecu do you have. Ect ect ect....

The ground on the thermostat is for the ecu and his ecu has power ... so I don't think it is that ground that is the problem... but he could always try it it won't hurt. Also does it get spark, fuel and compression?

The hatch is an si with original harness and I'm using the obd0 ls ecu(I forget the code for the thing). Its not cranking at all yet just clicks every once in a while when I try to start it and somtimes it doesn't do anything just dims the cluster lights while the key is turned. I'm not sure about spark and fuel yet but im hopful this is the only hurdle lol.
Sounds like a bad ground for the starter or the starter it self is bad. I would check all the grounds first befor replacing the starter. also you said the battery was relocated make sure the wiring for the battery is connected right and and that none of the positive wires are loose and that the main power wire for the starter is tight . And another thing is chech the black wire with white stripe going to the starter it could be loose to
So today I cleaned thegrounding points and rechecked the wiring. I turned the key to the 1st position and the dash lights came on like normal but once againt there was a click in the engine bay and now the dash lights are super dim when I turn the key and fuel pump won't prime. I've got an extra starter at my freinds house I might have to just try that.
So I'm pretty convinced that its a bad starter, I hooked up the starter straight to my bros car battery since mine is junk and it barley wanted to turn. Fortunatly I have another starter from one of my ls swaps so well see how that goes.
I replaced the starter and it starts up now. Only catch is it revs up to 4k and stays there... I cleaned the iacv and the thermo valve, plugged a vac line I missed and nothing helped. I noticed the intake mani is only held on by 3 bolts but the thing looks aged on there and it was slow dripping fromthe hose area closest to the themostat but that may be my next stop..It was missing for a bit when I first started it but not doing it anymore, I'm a bit sketched because I let it run for like 15mins and when I shut it off there was a bit of bubbling noise coming from the rad (its new) and the water I put in was dirty..not oil I've had a bad headgasket before so it wasnt oil and no water in the pan but the bubbling noise was all to familiar. Anyone have any input or advice? Thanks
