if you want to try and fix this problem, most dealerships will start off by giving you a new gas cap and seeing if the light turns back on. if that doesnt work, the job can get very expensive to diagnose and fix.

I will go and buy a new gas cap on Monday and see if the cel comes back. Before the light came on i remember getting the message on the odometer to "check gas cap". As soon as the cel starting coming on i didn't get the message about the gas cap and i'm sure i always tightened it correctly.

The best thing is to have an evap function test performed and see what fails. A Honda dealership can run this test to determine what is stuck open/closed or leaking.

P0497 does not indicate an issue with your gas cap. If you purchased a non Honda gas cap, I would put your factory one back on.

ok, so just go to a honda dealership and have a: evap function test performed. How much does this typically cost?

The only exhaust leak this meck has is the one coming out his *** for your dollar bills. To my knoledge EVAP systems recycle fuel vapours using the ecu computers ., its really mostly the gas tank and feul lines connected to a solidnoid that opens and closes at certain pressure to the intake manifold to reburn the vapours and to reduce emmisions. It might be more detauled than this, vut im pretty sure this sums it up
