Default 2001 Accord wierd tranny fluid issue

So my buddy calls me up. His 2001 honda accord was loosing power and a check engine light came on. He pulled over and the engine bay was smoking. He pop the hood and noticed the red cheri tranny fluid was splatered on the exhaust and that is why he was smoking.
I did his 90k tune up and flush his transmission, no issues, Ive done them before. The only thing Im gonna admit to, is that I probobly did over fill abit. Did shifting of gears and gave it test drive, everything went smooth till today.
He had to have towed to his mome, Im gonna take a look at it tomorrow. But Im clueless here. Anyone have any good ideas as to how to approach this one, maybe a proper proceedure.
Thanks!

sounds like a tranny cooler line burst or came apart from the tranny or the radiator. When you flushed his tranny did you pull a line off the radiator? Then again this may have nothing to do w/ the work you did previously. You wont know until you look at it.

Flush? as in using a power flush with a machine, or just letting the fluid drain from running the engine?

i agree with Jmb106jr that it may just be a fluid line, but if you power flushed it....yikes.

Thanks for getting at me. Here is the good, the bad and the ugly.
Did not do a drip and fill. I did disconnect the tranny coolar line blew air to empty out the radiator deposite.
As of today. There is a vent (burp) hose on top of the tranny, this is where the fluid was bleeding out from and yes it was wet and it was abit of drops still coming out.
I ran the car to running temp, both fans kick on. Put the car in Nutural check the level and it registers perfect.
Engine light was on. Trip the connection and pulled error code 70 was given. Noted the D4 light was also was also flashing an erro code 41 was ginven.
Anynone know this?
So Ill pulled out the back up clock fuse #13 to clear the tcm. D4 light cleared out but the check engine light stayed on.
Jump in the car drove the crap out of it, meaning driving hard, for about 20 miles. No porblems, tranny shifted flawlessly.
So that is where I am presently. Im guessing the tranny still had air pockets in it, when I refill it during the flus. I overfilled it to the dipstick brim. Im asume this can also be a possibility as to leaking out.
Get back at me with your thoughts.
Thanks. Im gonne be waiting.
Oh! My buddy wants to know why the car felt limp, loss of power when it was smoking?

Well the D4 light flashing could indicates the VSS. Don,t know if that car has one. W/ the D4 light flashing the tranny probably went into "limp mode". why over fill the tranny? never heard of a burp tube, and why introduce air into the radiator? Not to sound like i am criticizing you but it sounds like what you did created the tranny issues. I would do a drain and fill and drive it and check the level. Cost u 3qrts of fluid and some time but, well worth the piece of mind.

Thanks. Yah! the over fill? That was my bad, my Oooops! Rather be over than under fill. As for the burp tube, what can I tell you, I had no idea it even excisted, but there it is. The only sence I can make out of it. 3 quart reflush, not gonna happend. Test drove it last night, no limp mode issues, tranny shifted smoothly. Im dealing with check engine lihght with a possible error code 70. Like to shut this thing off, so I can head out of dodge.
Error code 70 anyone?

In here to post up my results, Im not gonna sweat this no more. Like I said, tranny oil level is fun, tranny just needed to burp after doing a complete flush. Test drove it, smooth as a jewel. Was able to clear up the error code from the TCU, the procedure is straight forward from the Hanyes Manual. Thanks to all
