Default Need Help Fast!!!! A Few questions...but very good ones!!

Well, here goes nothing...I want to go with either JUN, Mugen, or Spoon...don't ask me why, I just want the best parts for my car and was thinking of trying to go with one manu. for my up-grades. No one still has said anything about exhaust...I eventually want to buy a header but if I up-grade the CAT I don't want to be pulling codes...or have the check engine light go on...so I don't know what to do there!! I don't know if the Mugen Twin Loop is good, or to go with Spoon...or some other exhaust like what I have seen in SCC magazine (JIC exuast's, they are titanium? any good?).
I know, don't believe all the stuff I read or see, but the adds looked interesting and was wondering if anyone was running with this set-up. I basically need to know what everyone is running and putting out the most power without having a large amount of problems.
I know this may sound like a hard question to answer, but I am searching for what to do to my R with 5k miles on it!! thanks, and I hope somone responds to this post!

First: what do you want out of the car? Are you looking only at power mods? a mix of all? etc.

Personally I'm not a fan of sticking with one manufacturer, unless you want the theme thing. Why not consider some of the Toda parts too?

Mugen exhaust is nice, quiet, but from the cars I've seen with them more powre can be had with other exhausts. The spoon exhausts are axle-back only to my knowledge which still leaves the slightly bottlenecked OEM B-pipe unless you replace it too. You might want to go with a 2.5" exhaust like the Kakimoto-R, SMSP, Hytech, etc if you are going to be running different cams and such.

Let us know what you want first, then you'll get better answers.

Hi there!
There's lots of good information if you take some time and do a search, including some of the archived stuff.

Sounds like you've got some money to burn, or burning a hole in your pocket.

Well, I am want the car to look JDM, so I will be doing the conversion, recaros, etc. For the motor, I want the car to be faster...I am not into Auto Cross...I want to do suspension also, Tein would be what I want to go with there. Other then that, I am open to suggestions on what to do to the car without throwing codes and having that damn check engine light come on! So please, let me know what you all suggest...and please, if it is too much for you guys to re-type some helpful info. instead of just telling me it is in the archives then I apologize...but I am just needing some helpful info. here. Thanks a lot for all those who can help me out with great advice! thanks again

In the time that it took you to write that post, in which you made a remark about people who were trying to give you some "helpful info" by pointing you towards the good'ol search button, you could already know all you need to know through searching.

So here is some helpful info for ya: SEARCH!

So you want absolutly the best stuff....

Well, in my opinion from the many dyno charts and reviews that people have given on these products either Hytech or SMSP is going to give you the best performance. Not cheap, but by far the best results. I know your going for the whole JDM thing but if you want the best performance then go for either of those two. I have yet to see anything better on the market.

Good Luck,
Matt

Motor: Intake (your choice), Header: Toda/Hytech/SMSP, Cat: Carsound or a test pipe with tinfoil wrapped around the S02S, Exhaust: whichever you want. VAFC/Fields vtec controller, some cam gears (skunk2/toda). edit: oh yeah, add dyno time to tune dat chit.

Suspension: Why Tein? If you just want the drop with some added performance you can get that from spoon springs, kg/mm springs, etc. The stock suspension can be very very tricky at the limits if you don't know how to control it and upgrading the suspension can make it even harder to control. It can also make the car handle worse.

Check engine light: remove the bulb.

I'll make the suggestion that I'll get slammed for, but go to a driving school (HPDE) or two to really learn to drive. An ITR can own it's driver and I don't want to see you, or your car, implanted into a tree.

Dave, the rest of us need cheap spares!
It won't be long.

P.S. what's a "spoon" and an SO2S?

OK, so why throw the check engine light bulb away? I know that going with just one may seem stupid...will car sound cat give me problems? I have heard that this CAT throws codes? Heres what I am considering:
Intake: AEM CAI
Header: Spoon or SMSP? Reccomendations?
CAT: Something that doesn't give me problems
CAMS: Suggestions
VAFC
Exhaust: Have no clue
Suspension: First come to mind; TEIN NA
Clutch: ? Factory is good enough??
Flywheel: ?

I will be taking a driving class so I can learn how to drive my car, in the mean time, if there is anyone who can help me on anything else I need, please let me know. Or, if those out there want to post what set-ups they are running/WHP that could be beneficial also. Thanks again for your help

OK, so why throw the check engine light bulb away?
You'll never see the light It's not an important error until you can't engage the vtec lobes anyways

Intake: AEM CAI
Comptech icebox is quieter, unless you want the noise. There should be an intake test posted eventually by Mike M.

Header: Spoon or SMSP? Reccomendations?
Already answered. Toda, SMSP or Hytech.

CAT: Something that doesn't give me problems
most all of them have issues. Dave@SMSP will weld the **** out of the Carsound though so it wont lose the heatshield..

CAMS: Suggestions
Do a search on this one. It's been covered hundreds of times at least (literally)

Clutch: ? Factory is good enough??
Unless you are pushing a good amount more power than stock, but if you replace the flywheel might as well replace the clutch. Exedy gets a from me.

Flywheel: ?
Fidanza, Comptech, Toda. Toda is easier than fidanza to install. Nice holes to put a screwdriver through.

I will be taking a driving class so I can learn how to drive my car
x 20

Or, if those out there want to post what set-ups they are running/WHP that could be beneficial also. Thanks again for your help
Again, do a search for that. You'll find plenty there. One thing about this forum, there's a lot of good info but if it's a common topic you'll get slammed if you don't search first.

I'd also suggest an ATS final drive while you do the clutch/pp/flywheel.
