Need help from the H-T community. Please do not scold me and post "you should have or you could have" comments, I have realized now of the many things that I could have or should have done. This thread is to give people the heads up if they see my parts for sale, to help me in gathering any information leading into finding out who could have taken my car and also remind people the risks of owning a Type-R or modified Honda.

Date Stolen and Location: Between 7pm 01/27/11 and 4am 01/28/11 in front of my house 200 block S. Electric Ave. in Alhambra

Year: 2001

Color: Phoenix Yellow

Badge: 01-0417 I think

Mileage upon incident: 55,000 something

Modifications if applicable: JDM Non-HID Front End, Jackson Racing Supercharger, Spoon 4-2-1 Race Header and 16" White Volk
Racing Te-37s

Theft Deterrent used on vehicle: A no name Club knock off steering wheel anti-theft device, a regular nothing fancy alarm and "The Clutch Claw" anti-theft pedal device. I still can’t believe that they cracked this, it was not something jackers could have easily studied by going to Pep Boys, Kragan, Auto Zone or Target. Thinking a Flat Bed must have been used.

Brief Description about the theft if possible including specific location, time of day and any information you feel useful to other owners: 200 block S. Electric Ave. (down the street from Goudy Honda) I'm sure many have seen my car on this block. Taken between 7pm and 4am.

Insurance settlement amount: Biggest mistake for trying to save money was I ONLY HAD LIABILITY INSURANCE.

Here is the story:
Big owning a Type-R mistake. I was parking my R on the street. I have a **** load of junk in my garage and had been lazy to clear it out to make room for my R. Not only that but had also been lazy to make some type of ramps to drive up my driveway since it’s steep and was scraping my front lip. I had two other cars I used to sandwich my R in between to prevent it from getting stolen. Here is the thing I had my R parked on the street a little over two years with only one incident involving someone trying to steal it. The situation was blotched because I was up late watching TV in my living room and I'm thinking these amateur jackers set off my alarm and got startled. The reason I was not driving it at the time it was stolen was another stupid reason. The fake no name club I had had been using kept sticking a bit but a quick jiggle and shake would eventually unlock it. Last week it was street sweeping on my street and the club lock this time did not unlock and was stuck for sure. Luckily the parking enforcement guy gave me a break. I was lazy again and should have called off work and stayed to break the club. I did use a drill and destroyed some of the lock, but it wasn’t enough. I decided to leave it for another day and do it on the weekend but I did not. This week street sweeping again I called my tow truck friend who moved my car for me to prevent from me getting a parking ticket. Again I was lazy and decided that I would do it this weekend. Well some jackers beat me to it. Another mistake was me hanging out at work and not going home right away. I was supposed to get off at 2am , but was hanging out at the office. I had some coffee so I was up and was on the internet at work and knew I was going to do the same at home. I ended up getting home a little after 4am and as I approached my house right away noticed my R was gone. I reported it stolen to the Alhambra Police Department. I had ultimately screwed up and had let my guard and got comfortable and straight up lazy. Even after getting married and having a baby I still refused to let go of my beloved Type-R. I had been thinking about selling it, but it had a leaky clutch master cylinder and a broken axle and did not want low ballers to get me on that. I let the holidays pass and was planning a birthday bash for me and my little girl in March so money was tight and did other things with my money.

I do not expect to even get my car back and if I do I am expecting a shell. Looking back now and going though threads like this of people getting there car stolen I'm thinking I should have been more precautious and most of all not been lazy. I remember looking at Jon Ds "The Graveyard" thread and thinking to myself God I hope that never happens to me. I was ignorant and thought it would not happen to me, especially since I had parked it on the street for so long.

I am asking for help from the H-T community. I want people to be on the look out for yellow ITR parts, a Jackson Racing Supercharger, JDM Front End Non-HID, White 16" 5-Lug Volk Racing TE-37s with black stickers and a Spoon 4-2-1 Race Header which you don’t see for sale quite often and should be flagged if someone is selling one.

So leaving off with this note. If you own a Type-R make sure you have a garage and full coverage/comp & collision insurance.

02/07/2010 UPDATE: Got a message from ELA Sheriffs Department today 02/07/2010 at 0450 am. A deputy called me to notifity me that my vehicle was recovered and that detectives were going to hold it for evidence. I was told that detectives were going to call me in a week. I called the station and the deputy that called me did not have much info. just that some chop shop may have been busted and a couple of people are being detained for questioning. Dont know what conditon it is in. Hopefully it had not been parted out or raped too bad. I hope my parts are around and I will be able to recover them. If anything I'm glad someone punks got jammed up. Had lost faith in getting help by the PD but maybe some auto theft detectives were on something and finally came down on some jackers. Didnt really think it would be recovered at all. I'll post any further and updated info I get. Thanks for all the people who wished me the best. A lot of my friends and family feft bad because of my loss and helped me keep my head up.

when did it get stolen? where did the crime take place? and what security do you have in the car? We cant help you if you don't give us any info.

Is it at all "possible" that it finally got towed for being illegaly parked? it's a long shot but ya never know?

honestly i feel ways about this .. i feel bad for u and what not... but dude u "had" a Type R ... maybe this should be a reality check for all the owners out there ..... If u got a Garage F**kin use it .. its there for a reason to store ur car ... clearly u were really lazy and comfortable which u shouldnt have if u got a tip .. but i dont wanna go on .. i hope this is a lesson learned ...

 

Always park head in with your wheels turned (makes it a lil more difficult to tow) and always park in gear. Never leave your car in neutral, that makes it way too easy.

Also if you can park your R close as possible to like a parking pole, big *** rock or something and turn the wheels away from it. So if it's getting towed it'll go towards the obstruction and keep it from going on flat bed.

They'll have to use a floor jack or Go jaks to be able to tow it then.

I fortunately i have a garage for my R and i have my wifes car parked in front of it aswell. A garage isnt always enough though as mine was broken into an had $10,000 in tools stolen not too long ago.

everytime i read a thread like this i feel like the chance of owning my unicorn is getting slimmer and slimmer. to the op im sorry for your loss. i really am. one day this world will go back to a vigilante way of policing and thieves will be no more. if you do find out who stole your car i say you blow their knee caps out and cut off their thumbs.

i dont have one but want one for my ek. i take my steering wheel inside every night unless i park my other cars behind it. plus i do electrical stuff. you can break into my car, take my deck, pop my hood n grab some parts... BUT YOU AINT TAKEN MY CAR NOWHERE WITHOUT TOWING IT!!!

Dude, that sucks. With a color like that it shouldn't be hard to spot, unfortunately it will likely be in pieces in no time. Good luck.

 

Sorry for your lost but you got a little too careless.. You can't slip up owning and R. I had mines out in my drive way with a dead battery for 10 min and was parinoid had to pull it back in. This should be a reality check mrevan said.

 

I empathize with your situation because it must be hard to have something like this taken from you.

But when I read that you park it on the street (same spot every time), I shook my head, particularly as I saw your location was set as "CA." When you said that you only have liability coverage on it, it quickly became difficult not to place blame on you as well.

I'm inclined to wish you the best in recovering it, but realistically that is such a long shot that you shouldn't invest any hope in it. I hate to break it to you but if you do by some weird coincidence come across any of your parts, they will have changed hands to many times that any retribution will vanish on the spot.

Let the other ITR owners take from this and make sure they're doing what you did not. If anybody here wants to pursue a collector's insurance policy (agreed value, not stated w/ depreciation nonsense), PM me and I can give you some info that'll help you sleep at night.

 

I learned this the hard way as well.But seriously you can "NEVER" slip in a type r and i mean "NEVER".I had a friend leave his R outside of his garage for 10 mins came back with a bucket to wash it and found two fools sitting in the car.

I have collectors insurance from hagerty as well.
