I have a 93 EH9 and......my question is probably stupid to you but electronics aren't my thing, ya dig? ok well my speedometer wont work, i have to hit my dash to make it jump up to the mph and sometimes even that doesn't work, other times it will just fly over to 100mph and when i slow down it will go to the underside of the gauge. I've replaced the vss, I've also bought a cluster off ebay and both the vss and cluster fixed it for a few hours then it was right back at it. so I've come to the conclusion that its obviously in the wiring. so how do i check the wiring? voltmeter obviously? but what wires control the speedometer?

ps. when i turn my light on, sometimes the dash lights will go off but I've found that if i wiggle the dimmer switch they will come on and sometimes i have to push on the plate around the dimmer to get them to come on. so whats with that? I'm guessing wiring too?

also. i have made sure all my connections are good and secure everything is tightly pushed in.

pleaseeeeee help me. this is the only thing wrong with my car, and i realllly am at a stand still I've done all i know to do.

anyone had this problem and fixed it?

#2 is a POS dimmer switch. Common problem.

 

1) Unplug the dimmer switch and then use a jumper wire to connect the red wire to the black wire in the connector. This will may the cluster and climate control panel lights shine at full brightness, and should eliminate the flicker.

2) Is the CEL on? Is code 17 thrown?
