CRX/EF...what's the difference?
hey, I've had my '88 CRX Si for 15 years, and I am unfamiliar with the term "EF," that's used often in this forum. What does EF stand for? If anyone could elighten me with my rookie question I would appreciate it!
EF is a shortened version of the chassis code for some fourth generation Honda Civics/CRXes. It's similar to the terms EG ('92-'95 Civic) and EK ('96-'00 Civic) even though not all of the cars in that generation of the specified model would have VINs that match that. In fact, there are no US EKs even.
Wrong as they might technically be, they are accepted designators for those generations.
Ed=usdm civic/crx
Ef=jdm civic/crx.
Most people still call there usdm civic/crx ef's
Ef=jdm civic/crx.

For instance I call my 91 std hatch an ed6 but none of these foos out here know wtf I'm talking about or when I say ed7 (si) or ef8 (jdm crx) so I just say rex or ef in plain terms but some older or more wiser heads know. Its kinda hard to even memerize all honda chassis codes I mean I'm teaching girl and sometimes I'm confusing myself with the newer civic lol.
^that's because so cal is full of jdm posers who probably don't even know what jdm means in the first place...when i hear jdm i think of a yoshinoya rice bowl...!!!

OP, at least as far as asking any tech questions or referring to anything where you don't want anyone to get confused, it's probably best to steer clear of chassis codes altogether.
