Ok, the GSR 5th only lowers your rpms ~300. At 5000 rpms I'm cruising at about 85mph with the stock 5th. If you're worried about gas mileage I don't think you should be. You won't decrease cabin noise at freeway speeds with the GSR 5th. I can't think of any other reasons why you might be considering a GSR 5th.

Spend the money on a lightweight fw instead.

82 mph is 5000. and GSR 5th lowers rpms 400 rpms.

I thought I needed it but opted not to. Not that bad. makes you want to shift to 6th though.

you'll get over that soon enough. Everytime I drive an ATS'd car I get that feeling for a few minutes than remember I don't have to downshift to pass (usually) and forget about it

If your worried about the noise, gas milage, increased ware or whatever don't get the ATS you don't really need it

I dont like having to go to 3rd@70 when i race people. I wanna be able to just go to 4th. And revving faster in all the gears is always fun too.

it is good to hear that everyone thinks you should keep the stock itr 5th

I have an ls 5th gear waiting to go in. I do too much commuting and 3.5 hour drives to lake tahoe in the winter 2 times a week. dont care about gas mileage. but do care about how freaking loud it will be.

the local tracks around here (thunderhill, sears point, laguna seca) I will be in 5th for about 30-45 yards. it will suck for that portion, but its a comprise I am willing to live with. at other tracks i shouldnt be hitting the 5th gear

i'm not worried about noise gas and that stuff...
i guess i just have to drive slower then i usually do.. going 80 and being at 5000 rpm doesn't sound nice to the motor....

Its an ITR, they're just starting to breathe at 5000rpm.

You have a choice:

Lower your speed so your rpm is decreased.

or

Give in to your engine that is begging for more rpm and see what 8000 rpm in 5th is like.

Dude, You NEED TO SEARCH!!!

This topic has been covered so many times it's unbelievable, and Don't say you didn't find anything about it or the GSR 5th. Thats B.S. ALL the information about the ATS FD and the use of the stock ITR 1-5th gearing as opposed to the stock 1-4 plus GSR5th And even discussion of using the ATS 1-5 gearset And even the use the taller ATS 1st and stock 2-5th and Any and as Many other combinations that you could possibly think of are ALL THERE.

Try using as many different words and combinations as possible to Search for. And for God's sake use the Archived links because THAT'S where you'll find loads of helpful information.

You know what?

JUST DO IT! The GSR 5th is unnecessary and lame.

Would So Many people steer you wrong?
You'll never know unless you SEARCH the Archives and Read all the threads and results.

GOOD LUCK,

A.

.....I would've said "p00sies," but whatever floats your boat.

I actually want a more agressive 5th gear now...

I have ats final, and stock usdm 1-5,r... I wouldn't change a thing!
