05 s2k 1st and 2nd gear problems
I just purchased my 05 s2000 with 100k miles, i've had it for about a week and noticed that sometimes it tries to grind while i'm going into second gear no certain rmps just randomly. After it grinds i almost have to force the shifter into first. it loosens back up after a few more shifts but i'm not sure what the problem is. i think it may be the synchros.

DO NOT FORCE THE SHIFTER INTO FIRST! Do not put the car in first unless you are stopped or very, very close to it. Like <3MPH... That resistance is normal.
Start by changing your transmission fluid, this will more then likely cure some or all of the grinding. Different fluids can be used for different temps. Understand that while the car is cold it will be harder to shift, and this is 100% normal.

^this man speaks the truth...i always warm my car up at least 5 minutes and its still notchy, its just the nature of the beast...it is a direct drive transmission which means no linkage, so naturally its going to be notchy
The fluid was changed 2 months ago, I always let the car warm up before I drive, and I mean while shifting into first at a stop.
It's grindy while going into second of I shift faster, and if it grinds when I shift fast then it starts getting harder to put into first.

you cant slam shift this thing man...you have to learn to finesse it...and dont put anything in it thats not honda manual transmission fluid, leave synchromesh to the government motor cars
I guess I don't know what you mean by "finess" I've driven many standards and never had a problem, can you explain for me? I'm really trying to enjoy this car but it's not going well..
ok when driving normal or even spirited basicly anytime that ur not racing someone in a straight line practice double clutching but without the clutching when u shift shift slow and feel the lever pop out of gear into neutral and then put it in gear make fluid. but for ur tranny i duno do what everyone says if its still the same then ur syncs r ****ed and u need a rebuild or a new trans.
thats pretty much how i could explain it, double clutch without actually clutching it....the throws are super short and like i said its a direct drive transmission, so you should be able to feel it going out of gear and then a slight resistance going into the next gear...shift slow for a while until you get a feel of the tranny, practice is really all i can say...and if that doesnt fix anything, you probably need to rebuild a tranny or find a new one like dave said
I'll try that but, idk how im going to like it compared to what I'm used to..
Thanks for the help guys! If I keep having problems I will have it rebuilt, wish me luck!

one of the hardest things to do is relearning something that ur already comfortable with kinda like learning how to snowboard in switch opposed to regular its like relearning how to ride allover again. that y learning how to drive by urself sux cause u develop bad habits. you should always have someone who knows what he/she is doing go along for a ride with u once in a while and point out ur mistakes
Did you change the fluid yourself or are you going off what someone else has said. The fluid used in this car makes a BIG difference and as I said, so does the temperature. If you have good fluid, and the temp is warm then you need to have your synchros replaced and that my friend is $$$. Rebuild, or replace trans...
Just the guy I bought It from told me, I'm going to change the fluid soon and see if it helps. I was out driving today and I'm gettin the hang of it. And if I do need syncros my brother and I can do it since he does them about once a week:D
What do you reccomend on fluids? And if needed where could I get a good set of syncros?

no...its a honda, not a GM...the only fluid that should go in that trans is HMTF...its not a civic or an integra bro...and ive answered this question twice in this post already...either take the advice or stop asking the same questions
If it's any help, our old 05 would struggle going into first some times at any temp, and second was slightly notchy especially when cold.
Remember, when shifting from fifth to sixth, turn your hand so that your palm is facing the passenger. This will help from accidentally going into fourth (quite often it happens to people)
