98 Civic EX 5spd, High idle and stall when gas is pressed
Hey guys. Thankfully I found a forum that looks to know these hondas inside and out.
Today I went to start my car (98 civic ex 5spd 170k) The car immediately made a backfire like sound in the rear and tossed a check engine light along with the rpms sitting higher than normal, then dipping to around 800 and shooting back to that higher rpm zone for maybe 10 seconds only to repeat over and over.. I attempted to drive the car however as soon as I gave it gas it would bog down and want to stall. The car can idle on its own without stalling but wont simply stay put at the 850 or so rpm it normally sits at without jumping up like its wanting to warm up repeatedly.
Any idea what the fix might be? The oil is new and the plugs, wires, dist cap and coil are all about 20k miles old...
THNAKS in Advance!

UPDATE:
I got a code reader which shows the car is throwing the p0108 error code which is "Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Circuit High Voltage"
So far I have done the following:
Replaced plugs and wires
cleaned the TB and IACV
Still the problem continues.. Any suggestions?

What did you do for the MAP sensor code? I don't understand what replacing plugs and wires are supposed to do to address MAP sensor issues?

there is a simple troubleshooting procedure in a $10 shop manual from an auto parts store.there should be 5v on one wire, ground on one and a signal back to the ECU on one.the signal voltage varies with vacuum,up to 5v.if there's only 5v on the feed wire, and more than 5v on the signal, the sensor is bad.if there's more than 5v on the feed wire, you're either picking up voltage from a short to a 12v wire,or the ECU is sending too much current(doubt it since all the 5v sensors get their feed from the same circuit).
