Default H22 Diff Speedometer Gear Help

My friend has a H22 and the speedometer has been acting funny. I removed the VSS and stuck my finger in the transmission and noticed that I could move the speedometer gear on the differential side-to-side. I have worked on B & D series transmissions where the gear is like pressed on. How is this gear attached to the differential and how can this be fixed?

The H22 speedo gear is pressed on the differential the same as the B series.

Okay, thanks. I will find out the damage when I take it apart. Hopefully nothing to bad.
