Default 4WS Prelude?

I remember these cars vaugely, yet cant seem to find out what year they came in, or whether they would be a "sought after" car for road race, thinking about trying to find one and fixing it up? Anyone have any ideas\suggestions

Yeah they are great cars.

The 4th Gen is what I would reccomend. (92-96).

They have the H23A1, 160 Hp DOHC, very nice engine.

The 4WS only comes on certain models and is fairly rare. I'm sure you could find one if you looked hard enough...

Some say the 4-wheel steering is useless, others swear by it, I personally thing it's a little over-rated. To each his own.

Oh and they also came on the 3rd Gen model... but don't worry about those...

the third gen is the most common one you will find with the 4ws. i have one and it works great. you can most likely find one of the third gen 4ws models for a couple grand. you won't find a 92-94 prelude for less than 6. the 4ws for us models came in the third gens from 88-91 (all the years) and in the fourth gen from 92-94. the third gen has manual 4ws and the fourth gen came with electronic 4ws. having swapped the 4ws onto my third gen, i can only tell you that the third gen 4ws is very simply and easy to work with. i don't know about the fourth gen. i haven't seen one of those around my area yet. as for road racing, you can go with either model. it becomes more of a choice in body style. you can mod both cars the same way, it is just harder to find the mods for the third gen. well, good luck with either.

I got my 92 4WS Si Lude for $1800. :D Yet to see one under $5K. As for the 4WS, it is nice when you drive the car in the parking lot. I am not sure if it handles any better on the road courses than a regular Lude. I will drive my friends 95 Lude and see if there is much of a difference.
Having 4WS is fun though.

I agree. I have the 92 Si 4ws and can't say that there's a huge difference w.r.t. road racing. Mostly, it's about being a hog and telling people that you have 4ws. If you do a swap, then you'll have 4ws VTEC.....true baller status among the 4th gens.

AHAHAHA. I agree. I like telling people that it's 4WS too. Everyone is always surprised.

I also have a 92 Si 4ws Prelude. I think it makes the most differnce at slower speeds, like while parking, because the back wheels turn the opposite of the front. on the highway its not as noticeable cause your not turning the wheel as hard and the wheels move in the same direction asthe front. mine has the unfortunate problem of acting up on me every once and a while and the second I make a turn I can tell its not working, It definately makes a dramatic differernce over a regular car. for racing I think the car is kinda on the heavy side, and I am actually thinking of buying a civic hatch and start road racing. what do you guys think?

I also have a 92 Si4WS. The 4WS does make a difference everywhere. The only things that I don't like about the 4WS is the response time. I wish it was better. The only other thing about 4WS is parallel parking can be a bitch if the spot is tight. Because if you back in when the front is in the back is out because the wheels are turned. I think they should have a switch to shut it off.
Here are some facts about the electronic 4WS:
Speeds under 18mph the wheels turn opposite higher speeds the wheels turn in the same direction.

If your brake light is on for more than 5 mins the 4WS will shut off and light will come on.

If you have 3 or more people in the care and you are spiritedly driving the 4WS will shut off but the light will not come on.
