wiring trouble with a 89 dx with b18a1
well i have a 90 crx hf that was junk but had a b18a1 motor swap inside..... i got a 89 dx crx that had a b16a with a gsr head....
i swap the b18a1 into this shell
well i thought the wiring would have work for my obd 0 b18a1... the wiring harness is obd0...
but theirs 3 plugs im confused about...
theirs 2 plugs on the passenger ... one was custom made to fit something.. and the engine harness has a third small plug thats round.. chassis is missing the other end...
the driver side where the main big harness from the engine connects too... seems too small to fit into the bigger plug...
heres pics...jpg[/img]

ok well thats your problem right there, the CRX your using NOW is a DX model or DPFI the other CRX was an HF or MPFI,
you need to get a DPFI engine harness and convert it to MPFI
its rather simple
its all but 4 wires that need to be added from the ECU to the injectors and dizzy, I used an old Oxy 4 wire sensor plug to make it so it was plug and play.
but if it had a b16 in it, wheres the harness from that engine. Just use that, And switch out for any sensors yada yada yada............

well the guy i got the shell from he pulled the b16 out.... hes a reall shady mother ***** so he wont give me the harness...
so since this motor was originally in a hf shell with mpfi.... it needs a dx engine harness?
this red shell has an extra plug... heres the pic again that runs to the ecu....

and this plug on driver side i was talkin about is bigger then the engine plug thats souppose to go in it...

Yes, you need a DX harness off any DX model, But that Extra plug has a Orange and white wire. So im guessing thats a MPFI conversion since you said it runs to the ECU.
but what you have is an SI/HF harness. and on that harness the driver tower plug small and on STD/DX models its a big one.
so you can just get any old STD/DX engine harness(not hard to find) and just do the conversion to it, get another plug and make a new connection. And your done. Hit Craigslist to see if anyone has a spare dpfi engine harness.
your all good to go.
I run into this all the time with DX/STD civics some people just dont let you know before hand and people get confused

i already put in a hf dash harness in hope of makeing it run...
so far not good >,>
was this even possible to put a 90 hf harness in a 89 dx?

As long as you installed the hf harness that connects to the ecu you should be ok. Also make sure you have the matching engine harness for the ecu harness and that they are both in good working condition.
they were both working in the hf crx
u know how the harness goes back to the tailights?
if one ground on that harness is not grounded it would not get powere completely right?

All grounds Need to be connected and bolted on tight.
but the 88-89 and the 90-91 harnesses are wired differently from the under dash fuse block outward. Now if you reuse the fuse block from the under dash harness your using now im sure the rear harness should also just plug in and work fine and that will help you get it started. Go ahead and PM if you need any help
ive already had my tons of fun for the past 11 years with the 88-91 civics and all the wiring and hardware pains you could ever get

btw everything turns on now... but ecu is not getting power..? thats the only thing still dead.... :'(
someone got any info on the wires that runs to the ecu that gives it power?
P.S if the ecu isn't turn i would not get spark at the distributor right?

ok now i gotta get down to whats causing the malfunction here... any idea where i can find a diagrams of all the power wires for the ecu?
There's a 10A or maybe 15A fuse in the engine bay pass side shock tower fuse box for HAZ
(yes! HAZARD lights) that also powers the ECU
1st see if your ECU light blinks red once at the ECU itself when you 1st turn the key

so that explains everything!!!!!!!!!!
how would i get the 89 hazard switch power from 90 crx harness?
also when the harness was in my other crx... i never had a hazard switch connected... they bypass that somehow........
can i use the old harness and wire it in to the other harness?
P.S the ecu red light doesnt blink

look in the fusebox. replace the fuse. a no blink means the ECU is not getting power.

... now the fuel pump wont turn on... this happened after i was starting to get the harness tucked in..
should i just run a switch for the fuel pump ? i gotta do it sometime later anyways for track season...
and wheres the best place to get the power source?
