Need opinions on 97 ITR.
Hey guys I want to know what a Theft recovered and totally rebuilt 97 ITR is worth. It has less then 30,000 on the Body and it has never been in a wreck. But it was stolen. The person that had the car rebuilt has a TYPE R motor in it and 5 lug and seats and everything. Looks perfect. But here is the catch, The engine and tranny neither one have VIN tags on them. And the Armrest is a type R one but it has no number on it. Has the carbon fiber guage cluster and everything. What is it worth and what do you think about the engine situation. The number on the dash and the number on the firewall match.
sounds odd for sure,
but whatever floats your boat.
I'd ask for a receipt for that engine.
I know in certain areas if a cop pops your hood and youre without a vin tag/proper id for the motor your car gets impounded.

You guys are kind of on the same path I am.
No papers, No nothing. He said that after the car got stolen he ran across a guy that had all the parts to rebuild a TYPE R online. But the guys said that the parts were from a 2000 ITR.

Does he have papers for everything he replaced? sounds shady to me. insurance fraud smell seems to hit my nose.
Nobody bothered mentioning that there is no VIN number on the engine,
and from what I'd heard new trannys from the dealer don't come with VIN tags either!
How much is he asking for the car?

In Nicaragua, thieves will come up to your car at a stoplight and sell emblems they stole. A friend marked the back of his emblem so it could be indentified and a guy came upto his car and tried to sell him the marked emblem.

I sold mine for 10K with all correct VINS all around, and a fresh bottom end. The car was stolen and vandalized but most of the pieces were still there. The buyer still had to have it painted where it was keyed on most panels. No VINS and no papers on the the engine wouldn't be good, it would not pass state inspection in AZ.
So am I to understand that 97-98 ITR's didn't come with numbers on the armrest? How do you know what number you have if the dealer didn't give you a sheet telling you then?
