I drive a 99 civic manual transmission. My problem is when taking off i release the clutch and go into first which is tough bc the gear doesnt want to go in clean but nothing is moving and the car revs up. I can put it into reverse and sometimes second but i smell something burning. any help?

 

Sounds like you need to adjust the clutch pedal.

The burning smell is the clutch slipping. How old is the clutch?

 

the clutch from what I know is stock so 12 years with 55k miles. what i was doing was racing and missed 2nd, do you think that has anything to do with it?
