Default Gsr?

hello honda tech, i just swapped out my ls tranny with a gsr tranny because my ls differential broke how do i know if the tranny i have is really a gsr? btw it starts with S80 and i bought it from a guy who has a warehouse/car parts.

Get on the freeway and if you're making 3k rpm at 60mph - that's a GSR.

ls is 3.5@ 80mph. my gsr is 4k@80mph.

GS-R trans is approximately a 1:50 ratio road speed to engine speed in 5th gear with stock final drive. So take your road speed and divide it by 2 and put 2 zeroes on the end and that's what your RPM should be. If it's not, it's not a GS-R trans or doesn't have the stock final drive gear.

With 195/55/15 tires and 3000rpms a GSR tranny would net 60.44mph and a LS tranny would net 68.71.

Edit: btw, having a S80 stamp means pretty much nothing. It could be any of the 94-01 transmisions.

You can throw it in 5th gear, turn the input shaft over and a GSR should be 3.5 turns to one output whereas the LS is 3.0 (give or take obviously).

thanks guys! i just went on the freeway and it was on 3k rpm @ 60 and 4k rpm @ 80.
so its definitely a gsr tranny.
