Honda Accord 00 Instrument cluster Light
Hi
I am new to this forum and i hope you guys can help me out. I have been searching for a good solution for following problem but so far no luck.
Problem:
On my accord 2000 v6 Ex-l, my dashboard Instrument panel light will go off once in a while. it will only happen when i start the car and it comes on after a light tap on top of the dashboard. I checked the fuse and that is ok. I have been reading online that it could be possible bad multiplex control unit on driver side but i am not sure if it is since it does come back on after a light tap.
Now another confusing thing is that i do loose my radio memory once every few month. Battery checks out ok. alternates checks out ok. Not sure if bad multiplexer can cause this.
my questions are.
1. could it be multiplexer or bad Instrument panel circuit board?
2. if it is multiplexer and i buy multiplexer online, can i change it myself or i need dealer to reprogram anything?
3. if it is instrument panel circuit board, and i buy it online, can i change it myself or i need dealer to reprogram anything?
4. could it be anything that i have not thought of and how can i test that?
Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Tom

Tapping fixes directly indicate a loose connection: Circuit board, connections on wiring at each end, connections to the brightness control, the brightness control itself. Try changing the setting of the brightness control and see if it gets any more or less reliable, you might want to try turning it all the way up to short out the control element.
Blindly replacing the circuit board gives you a less than 50% chance of fixing it, unfortunately you have to dig in and troubleshoot it the hard way.
The radio losing its programming is unrelated, but it is also due to a bad connection between the radio and the battery. My first guess is the radio installation itself: Poorly crimped connections, corroded inline safety fuse, bad connector.
The radio one should be easier, the intermittent panel light will take time and you will tear a lot of stuff out to get at the circuits to test. To be honest with you, unless you have a lot of time and really want to do this, or it starts happening all the time or takes a mighty tap(s) to fix it, the better part of valor is to leave it and just tap.

Ok found the issue
I took instrument panel apart and checked the connection for power on the circuit board. Found one loose point and soldered it. All is well now. took a while to find the issue but glad i saw that crack on one point. I do have another problem. after doing this, i have engine light on and SRS on. I got the error code P1705. not sure if it is from all the testing and maybe shorted something or something else. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks

I have the same problem. Tapping the dash worked for a while but no more. Now my headlights are out (but not my high beams or parking lights).
Can you tell me a bit more about the instrument panel circuit board? Where is it and how did you get to it? I can get to the multiplex control unit but it's a $150 part and I would hate to buy it and find out it's the instrument panel circuit board.
Thanks.
