best route for b18b1 transmission
need some advice on what the best course of action is.
so ive been running this transmission til it finally gave out. it did today. i know some of the gears may be ruined same goes for the syncros.
it wouldnt downshift for the last 3 months. i know for a fact the main shaft bearing is shot last night i shifted to fifth and all i hear now is a sound like a playing card in a bicycle wheel. so i think its time to fix it.
should i buy a new transmission ? or rebuild this one ?
i dont know much about honda transmissions, can a b16 tranny be fit onto a b18 engine ?
ive heard of this but not sure whether it was just switching internal gears.
whats the cheapest route. bearing in mind i may be upgrading the transmission in the future.
should i find an ls or gsr used tranny ?
rebuild options ?
im kinda looking for the most cost effective way.
thanks for any advice.

Well since you drove this tranny into the ground, i would pick up anyother tranny and go through it to make sure everything inside the case is in good shape. As for what tranny to get I would go b16 or gsr tranny, ls ratios suck lol. All b-series trannys interchange(assuming your swapping hydro to hydro or cable to cable; in your case hydro since it appears you have a eg)
Rebuilding will be as much if not more than a used transmission. But if you rebuild it you will know that its in good working condition and you won't need to gamble on a used one.
All B-series are interchangeable, but you need to look at the different gear ratios.
A B16 or ITR transmission is not good for an LS motor, the shorter gear ratio will land your shift points right above your powerband.
You really need to get an idea of what you want your engine package to be and where it will put your powerband

Shorter gears = faster acceleration as long as traction is present.
I'd go ahead and see what is wrong with the LS trans. Would help to know what your future plans are though.
Shorter gears = lower top speed with the stock LS redline.
I agree, in order for anyone to help we need to know the peak power goal, powerband location, and the type of application you want to achieve, and of course your budget.
