Default What cam is needed!!

I've been looking into the M22X by RM but i'm still undecided. It's a pump gas street motor, will be daily driven. I'm torn between the M22x/Skunk2 stage 2/Buddy club stage 4

Basic rundown:

UPDATE!

Turns out the pistons i got for free from a friend were actually p30's after i cleaned them up lol

Block -
B18B1 (Ls crank/rods Arp hardware)
Oem P30 pistons
Oem 3 layer headgasket

Head -
Stock port head
B18C1 (ITR dual valve springs/retainers)
B17 cams
Stock port B18C1 intake manifold
RMF drag header
310 cc injectors

Really basic on a budget build. Looking to make 200 to the wheels.

You're going to need better valvesprings if you want to run bigger cams, ITRs won't last with the buddy clubs 4s, RM m22x, etc.

Yessir have full rev valvetrain with ferrea steel keepers waiting on the cam decision...I'm also looking into the skunk2 stage 2 tuner series cams

Low to mid range is where I want most of the torque..I was trying to find the b series cam comparison thread but apparently I suck at thread digging...pro 2's sound like overkill but then again I wonder how they compare to the lobes on the ctr intake cam..I know blox type C's are almost a direct copy of the ctr cams and the skunk2 stage 2 tuners I believe are a little more aggressive than the ctr cams..ughhh decisions decisions...lol

We have really similiar setups and goals with our builds. Only real difference is Im running p73 us itr pistons where you have the pr3 pistons. Im also debating on the RM 22xx Skunk Pro 1s or even Skunk tuner stage 2. But would be nice to have good midrange an smooth power without reving its guts out.

If you looking for the most power low/mid range the pro series cams hands down. Pro1's are one of the best all around cams on the market and have shown 6-10whp gains in the mids over 95% of other cam designs on the market. Pro 1's sounds like they will be your best bet for the parameters you have outlined so far.

you will get nearly no low/mid range with tuner cams over a OEM cam. Pro series offer that.

If this is a daily driver then the skunk2 tuner2 is a good cam as it will help retain some of the fuel mileage. Going with a cam with larger primaries (like the pro series) will make more low end power but at the cost of gas mileage.

your welcome...i dont feel as though the extra 6-10whp down low is worth the drop in gas mileage on a daily driver...plus the pro cams will increase the wear on the rockers. After much debate and talking to people who had experience with the pro cams I ended up sticking with my old skunk2 stage2 cams.

Right. It's not a drag motor or going to see the track too much maybe twice a month if that..thanks to everyone who has chimed in so far!

the pro1 and tuners 2 have the same lift on the vtec lobe...but the pro1s have a smother powerband with more midrange(better primary lobes)...so go with pro1 over tuner 2s unless you get a good deal..

It's not going to matter what cam you put in there you will stop making power around 180-185whp. The GSR manifold can only flow so much. You can run ITR cams or even Buddy Club Spec 3's on your valve train and still be at the 180-185 number, if your on a budget.
If your goal is truely 200whp then a new manifold will be needed for you build.

Based on this, you'd want BC 3's, Toda B's, Skunk2 pro 1's, RM M22xx cams. Pro 2's wouldn't be ideal on your build as it stands now and their lobes are quite a bit larger than CTR cam lobes. Blox C's are a driect copy of the Jun 3's, much larger than CTR's but closer to the S2S2's. CTR cams are stock cams, everything else aftermarket is larger than they are.

Going to the pro 2's I only noticed a drop of maybe 1 mpg at the most. Valvetrain wear has not been a problem either and the low end power makes a big difference on a daily driver, especially when merging and passing through traffic.

He was saying that you'll need to scrap your stock GSR intake manifold for at least a type R style, in order to hit the numbers you want (200whp). If it's low to mid range power that's most important to you, than keep your GSR intake manifold and forget about the 200hp number.

Well I figured I'd need a new intake manifold....I was referring to your post about the cams....you have helped plenty!
