i have a 1990 crx si,
i was going to do an O2 sensor replacement and i read all the steps and finally understood how to do it and went out to get started,
in the steps for O2 replacement, it said to remove the 2 bolts from exhaust manifold, i did that first, but then i realised it was still not coming loose, and its cause there was a 3rd bolt in middle at top edge, but i took that one out and i still can't get the thing to budge, and shined a flash light near bottom of exhaust manifold heat shield, and it looks like theres 1 or 2 bolts holding the heat shield down near the bottom tail-end section of it.
am i right? i just need to know, and if there are a couple bolts near bottom then whats the easiest way to access them, with enough clearance to losen them ?
any tips or help on getting it off would be awesome,
thnx

depends which motor/ exhaust you have but yes there are 4 bolts for most of the heat shields, 2 on top, 1 in the middle and one on the bottom. Try using some PB blaster or the like and let it soak in for a day if you can. But chances are you will break the heads off the bolts anyway.
you really dont need to take the heat sheild off. Get yourself an 0 2 sensor socket and just use that with the shield on.

To remove mine I used just regular wrenches and used that cool little trick of putting the closed end over the open end to get leverage and remove the fan first you can remove your AC like this too
Yeah and risk breaking something. Either way will work if it was me I would go ahead and take out the two bolts and one plug for the fan and take apart the car the way it was designed to come apart. But yes he is right a crows foot will work.

alright, thanks for confirming, and i guess i left out that my engine is a dohc ZC, and i did'nt mention that i did rent that O2 socket wrench thing from auto store.
and actually i was able to fit the socket thing securely onto the O2 sensor, then i jammed both my arms as deep as i could fit them down in that tight area to left of exhaust manifold and i had a grip, but i could'nt get a grip with leverage good enough to break the O2 sensor loose, which is stuck in there pretty good.
plus it just got dark, so i dropped everything and put heat sheild back on.
if i try hard and use all kinds of ratchet extenders or various tool combinations i'm sure i could probably get it out with the exhaust heat shield still in place, but no reason to make it hard so thats why i just wanted to ask and get clear on how to take the heat shield off, cause once thats off it will be so easy, with all that room to work with.

Go get a hanes or chilton manual, itll come in handy for just about anything, plus im sure itll have the steps. I understand you have a swap, but it should give you an idea. You have to improvise, plus try PB blaster, it works pretty well with seized bolts, im sure you can get it at autozone or something.
