Default Exhaust Manifold bolts

When/if you guys ever changed out your exhaust manifold (just the manifold) maybe because it was cracked and you failed an inspection or something how the heck did you get the bolts that connect it to the mid pipe off? This is the case with my neighbors car and for the life of me I cannot get them to break free. I've soaked them in wd-40 for the last two days and still can't get them off. What all did you/would you do to get them off?

If you are referring to the 3 bolts pointing downward at the front of the motor, I used an impact gun. If you don't have access to one, use a breaker bar and stick a long pipe on the end of it for additional leverage and turn it slowly. You'll hear a loud crack when it breaks free.

heat them up, will expand the bolts and they will come off easily.

If you dont have acces to a torch you can get them off by taking a socket the next size down and beating it on with a hammer make sure its a 10 point socket after that attach a breaker bar and give it a try it that doesnt work take a dremel and cutting wheel to them. Either way your going to have to replace them but the hardware cost me 3 bucks when I got it at advanced.

Try using PB Blaster or KROIL if you can too.

I'm gonna try the torch tomorrow and see how well that works... do I need to get a new bolt after that?

I had to put up with those little pains in the *** recently, however I don't know about your car but mine are actually nuts. First just make sure that the socket is all the way on and is not going to slip or else you'll strip them (if their like mine they're soft and rusted). Other than that I just used something like an 18" flex handle and pulled with all my might up to the hernia threshold. Another trick that may make it a little easier is to use a long socket extension and have a friend brace it on the axis while you hold on to the chassis and thrust into the flex handle with your foot. That's actually how I got my crank pulley bolt off. Also, in case it goes without saying, just replace the nuts and install the new ones with some anti-seize or something.

Torch is best bet. It would be wise to replace the hardware.

yea I figured as much, but the replacement one he got didn't come with the bolts so I was hoping to reuse them but I doubt I will be able too lol. I'll just pick up some new ones when I get his new gasket

You'd be able to reuse them as long as you don't strip them out. They're gonna go back on about as good as they come off tho.
