ok..so just got my b18c1 head back from the shop.got 3 angle done and and new valves and springs n stuff.put the head on,torqued it.replaced timing belt and got the engine timed to a T.valves adjusted to spec.when i start it up,it wont idle and sounds rough.the spark plugs turn black.i loosened the valves slightly and no difference.i cleaned the iac valve up.now im a little lost.could there be a sensor messing me up?also has a b16 crank pulley..but i dont think that makes a diff.LMK WHAT YOU THINK PLEASE. thanks.

Verify firing order. Are the plug wires going to the right places in both the distributor and the right cylinder?
Is the mechanical timing of the cams and crank correct? Note: I did not say distributor timing.
If the 2 above checks out, do a compression check.

check the MAP sensor, i had the same problem when i did my swap.... it didnt idle right, the spark plugs were black as hell. i switched out the MAP sensor and everything was fine.
i could also be the iac has an air bubble. i cleaned my iac and the car would not run or idle for about 15 min. till it cleared up.

i didnt touch either one.heres a question..since i have a 3 angle valve job done, when i adjust the valves do i leave them looser than specs?
Im gonna bet you $5 you diddnt set the cam gears to tdc and lined up the lines straight! if its off a tooth or more thats whats gonna happen suckah! check that and make sure!

kinda of funny i've notice.. on my old d-series z6, tdc would be pretty much straight up.. and on my gsr, tdc would be a little bit more tab over to the left... dohc verse sohc.. lols..
