PL3-3000 is what I have in my notes as a 90-91 Civic Si Tranny.

I know that my 88 ZC and 89 Si trannies both have PL3/3000. Tonight I will try and look at the spare DX tranny and the 90 Si tranny in my car and see what each of those are. I would think that since Honda changed the the bearing in 90 it may have a different code. Just a thought though.

send an IM to mista bone, he's the d-seties tranny man!!!!

I recenty got an "Si" tranny myself that had no "pl3" (just blank up there) and "1000" I'm thinking I may have gotten jipped, but I might just use it as a core to get a freshly rebuilt trans anyway (he wouldn't take my 4-speed as a core)

All the EF 5 speeds have the L3 designation on them. The only way to tell an SI from a DX from a HF is to put it in gear and spin the input shaft and while measuring the rotation of the output shaft (diff gear).

If I remember correctly, you put the trans in 4th gear. Spin the input shaft exactly 10 rotations, and the output shaft should rotate 280' for an SI. (Just past 9 0'clock). If in only spins about 250' its a DX. Less, and its an HF.

but doesn't the 88 si tranny have a 21 spline input shaft? mine has a 20 which should make it an 89-91

I'll have to try that method.

yes that is correct about the spline count. hmmmm.

i don't have a dx or hx tranny case to consult. although i am going by my friend's place tonight and he might have one. i'll try to take a look if he has a non-si tranny lying around.

OK I GOT HOSED!!!!!!!!!

The kid swore up and down that the trans I bought from him had twenty splines, so like an idiot I trusted him. I counted today and sure enough..... 21! It's an 88!

I'm betting it's not even an Si, is it?!?
