Major gremlins! -Fuel pump?
Suddenly my car wouldn't crank. I fixed that by adding a relay to the starter solenoid and wiring it from the ignition key. Now the car will crank & start just fine. - But...!!! (there's always a "but"...!!!)
The motor dies after a couple of minutes running. -I suspect fuel starvation. -Both of these symptoms came together very suddenly. -I think that perhaps the leaky windshield seal has finally started to kill things in the area of the fuse box!
-Can anyone answer these questions for me?
Where's the fuel pump? in-tank or in-line?
If it's in-tank, does it live with the sender in the top of the tank, and do you access it from inside the car or outside?
If it's the wiring that's at fault, can I just run a new live from the ignition, or is there some kind of over-pressure power cut-out that I'd be bypassing? -I suppose I'm asking if it's okay for the fuel pump to just run for as long as the engine is turned on.
-Any other thoughts? -All the fuses (in the cabin and under the hood) apper to be good. They measure good with a fluke meter.
Thanx

G3, there is an access hatch under the rear seat you need to open.

Hey, before doing anything.. Always perform some tests.. If the motor dies suddenly and you suspect fuel starvation, I would check "Fuel Injector Main Relay" and the distributor's coil. Because if the relay isn't working, no fuel.. If the coil is shorted to ground or shorted hot to hot, the car will run, but once the coil gets too hot, the car will stall and quit..
Hey, Thanks for the replies!
First I apologise for not including that it's a 1991 Integra. -At first the starter wouldn't turn over, (no "+" signal at the solenoid when you turn the key) so I rigged a 50-amp (that should be plenty!
) relay under the hood and ran a wire into the cabin and sniffed the "Start" contact on the ignition switch. -Now the car will turn over and start fine... -However...
My buddy Mike (It's his car... I'm afraid I'm not too familiar with Hondas, only old British cars, old VW's and the like, but he's not too car-minded at all, so I'm posting to see if we can knock our heads together and come up with the answer) took the car to head home the night before last, with an almost full tank of fuel, for what that's worth.
He got round the corner and the car died. -would turn over but not restart. -Pushed it to a parking space, came back later and it started like a champ. -drove back to work and it died again. -By the time I got out to it, it would start & run fine.
I thought it might be a fuel pump not getting power, but I can hear it running, so that's out. -I'll try the Fuel injector relay and the coil. -Presumably I should get a switched 12V on the input (low-voltage) side of the coil?
I really need to see what happens when the car dies, but it's worked fine on the short tests I've carried out... I can see some long drives round the parking lot this afternoon! (as long as that hurricane doesn't make things too wet! -Ugh!!!)
Thanks for the replies... Any other suggestions that come to mind, feel free to chip in!
Thanks,
Keith.

Oh yes... The windshield seal is missing (was missing when he bought the car 2 years ago) and 'sealed' (not very well!) with silicone. There is a leak, and it's on the driver's side. I think that perhaps the fusebox has begun to deteriorate...
From what I know of other cars, this can be the beginning of some real problems! -Is this also a horror story for other Integra owners? -I've certainly seen a few posts about missing windshield seals.
Keith.
