Default Port and Polish and retainer help

is it worth having this done, will i notice much difference on a mild build, not looking for mega power just wondering if i need to spend the £500 to get it done or if i can just run with the stock head with uprated cams and valvetrain.

I also have a set of titanium retainers which are C+R's but i have never heard of them and cant find any info on them, has anyone heard of these and are they any good?

Thanks in advance

My setup will be:
stock jdm integra type r b18c bottom end
b16a2 head
Buddyclub spec 3+ cams
spoon adjustable cam gears
toda valve springs
c+r ti retainers
elderbrook intake
mapped on a p30 ecu
not decided on a header as of yet

Depends on your power goals and budget. With stock pistons, cams and compression, you may only see small gains. If you can afford it, why not do it? I got only a basic valve job on my gsr, but bumped the compression up some, and used an aftermarket cam. And for what my motor is it made lots of power. Most people aim for 180+whp, with a slightly better than stock b motor, which is possible with stock port, if other things are in order good such as valve guides and ring seal. Hope that helps. good luck.

I would invest in increasing the compression then putting bigger cams. I believe the factory honda port starts restricting around 220hp after 8000k rpm. there isnt much power to be found in the portwork alone.

im not aiming for big power just something that could keep up with the type r boys and some fun around the b roads, my budget is not massive and the type r bottom end was already on the car when i bought it so im just finishing the project, and im only down to the last few parts i need.

i am aiming for 200-220bhp and i dont want to be having silly rev limits so 8600 would be the highest i would ever take it, i think my compression will be 11.5:1? which i think will run spec 3+/sk2 p1's? that is enough for me,

i do want to get the head work done but it is very expensive and i dont know if my budget will allow but if it is necessary i will do it

Although getting the head ported will make a nicer power band, I wouldn't get it ported if my goals were only 200 whp. I've seen some builds with stock port heads running pro 2's making 190-220 whp. Remember you'll need a decent header to also.

yes im looking to the usa to supply me with a good header possibly a bisimoto prototype v2, ill just stick with the stock head then, im sure it will be a huge power jump from the 169bhp standard engine so ill be happy with any good gains
