►►94 Hatch with 270k.. hmmm. Need your help! Should I buy it?◄◄
Can't give you an answer if you don't give a quoted price. But in general, yes. Worry about the engine though. Don't act like it's no problem since it runs fine. You have no clue. Either check it yourself if you're savvy enough or have a licensed mechanic (preferably one who specializes in Hondas) look at it. The rust is very fixable and it looks good for that mileage. Give me the price and people can answer further. But check the engine, don't get naive.
Sorry, I guess more information should have been given. The guy selling the car is a reputable guy. He has his own shop and don't have a doubt in my mind that the car isn't what is advertised. And the car is in the 2000 range. Definitely wouldn't pay more than 2k for it. And yes I fully plan on going through the car with my buddy tomorrow if we go look at it. Plan on doing a compression test and what not. Not just going to look her over and walk out.
2k for that car is extreme. My car has a rebuilt Mini - me swap and the body is at 13xxxx. Only paid 2500. Don't let him swindle you.
Like I said, not going to pay over 2k. And if the engine is as fresh as he says it is, honestly it doesn't seem like too bad of a deal does it? I know It might be a little much but finding a stock 92-95 civic coupe/hatch where I am at is proving to be very difficult. Teal ultimately is the color I want. So do you think it is worth paying a little more for what I want? Idk. Maybe I am just trying to justify myself. More opinions needed please!
I don't think so personally. A rebuilt engine in a 15+ year old car, regardless of mods, will rarely ever make it over $3000. I'd say that car is right about in the $1300 range.
Don't listen to everyone. That year civic is becoming harder and harder to find in good shape like that, espescially the hatches. You NEVER see them for sale where I'm at in any type of good conidition at least.
If the power plant is that new then 2 grand is well worth it IMO. The rusted quarter panels are fixable. They sell patch panels so all you need is someone who is good at body work.

I wouldn't pay more than $1200 if it's running. Half that if it doesn't run.
Blue book on it is $1200-1400 in excellent condition, which it is far from.

EDIT: I'd like to add further, the altezza's on the other Civic look terrible. The owner has bad tastes, another reason I'd be weary of him haha
Yes, but we all know that these cars are getting harder and harder to find. Here I am again, I just feel like I am justifying myself but it seems like in the midwest especially. These years are hard to find in decent condition. All of them are either rotted out with rust or have been attacked by 10 different 17 year old kids who just watched the fast and the furious. I don't live in Cali or southern states where clean cars are easier to come by. Blue Book is dumb to go off of, sorry but it is. I would but 5 different 5th gen hatchbacks if I could find them in excellent condition for 1200... Just saying.

I myself have taken a 5 hour trip both ways to pick a car up before.. but honestly I just don't like doing that. There is too much risk. Go all the way out of your way and end up not wanting it or not liking it. I have been looking up to around 200 miles away though. Just nothing has been popping up. It is horrible.
Maybe you are right though. Maybe the 2k price range is too much. Well I know it is. I would never pay 2k for it. I guess I will just go look at it tomorrow with an open mind and with keeping everything that has been said in here in the back of my head.

Op any chance you're being a little impatient? Do you NEED a car NOW, or are you just tired of looking around?
It took me 2 years to find a decent EG hatch, cars rot out badly up here too.
Anyway, $2000 is high even with a rebuilt engine. Also, the owner just went through the hassle and cost of rebuilding an engine and they want to get rid of it already? Be cautious.
One last thing, take a good look at the rocker panels. The plastic covers collect salty crap which can do a number on the rockers. Maybe pass this one up and hunt for one that needs less body work.

I guess I should have elaborated more. Yes, I do in fact need a car right now. I have been borrowing one of my dads extra cars for the last couple months to get me around. He is taking in back at the end of the month. I need something to get me around by February 1st. I can either jump on this and hopefully talk him down a little, or I can wait it out and hope something pops up within the next few weeks..
Since kbb doesn't mean anything to you, and it is your money, go buy that POS. I mean come on really dude. I pass up clean eg hatches all the time up here because people think they are gold. If you're paying over $1500, it better be damn clean.
Eh, I dunno, i'd offer $1500 - $1700. Its not bad, but that's not surface rust, Hondas rust from the inside out, those quarters will look about 10x worse on the inside.
I think $2k is too much for that car, but if it's really worth it to you and you really want it, then go for it. I would try to snag it for $1500 at least.

Otherwise.. there really aren't too many options. Any of them that are clean are either automatic or owned by other Honda enthusiasts and want a lot more than KBB...
I will check the rust out more though if I do end up going to look at it.
i'd say go for it, and use the 270k and rusty quarters to talk him down.. 2k for a car with 270k miles on it? i know its clean but damn lol
I've traveled from Knoxville TN to the middle of Virginia for one car 4 years ago and to the top of Ohio for the other (for my wife's 97 hatch 7 years ago). You might want to broaden your search area. If you have to travel make a day or 2 of it and if the car is a POS then don't buy it. You'll only be out a little time and a little gas. ME? I would drop that kind of cash on that.
i wouldnt buy a car with rust. its hard to re-sell. plus green??? should buy my hatch instead. located in iowa, only 3ish hour away. no rust, garage kept. link is in my sig below.
