rattle when not on gas?

So my ITR has a rattling-like noise. It hasn't always been there. It baffles me. It:
1) Is not super loud. It's around the same volume as engine idle at it's loudest.
2) Is worst when I'm cruising along and take my foot off the gas completely. If I then press the throttle again, just a little tiny bit, it goes away again. It may come back a little bit when I'm at higher throttle at high RPM, but I'm not sure since the engine is so loud. Definitely at low RPM and low (but not 0) throttle it's not there at all. But cruising, either on the highway or on a 35 mph road or wherever, and taking my foot off the gas, will make it start making noise every time. Doesn't matter what gear I'm in.
3) Sounds like a rattle or a worn bearing. Doesn't sound particularly metallic if that makes sense. For example I had the loose cat heat shield rattle and that sounded obviously like two pieces of metal that were vibrating against each other. This sounds less tinny than that, but not to the point where I'm sure it's not just two pieces of metal rattling. Make sense?
So, any suggestions on things to check? My exhaust is completely OEM and original, except I took the cat heat shield off. Everything on the engine is stock other than a K&N air filter. I have a small crack in my exhaust after the cat at the 1st hanger, but I doubt that's making noise.
Thanks for any input!

If you think it's transmission related I would say the mainshaft bearing. Does it sound like you're dragging a bag of rocks, especially in lower gears?
Leave the car off, put it in gear (with the ebrake off) then get out and push. If the car rocks a lot you found your problem. It could be a million other parts making noise, get some video on here for us to hear!!

hmmm, yeah it does kinda sound like that.
I will try to get video in the near future. So you're saying to put it in gear and push it, and then what exactly am I looking for? Jerky movement? Or noise?
Thanks!

Another fact about the sound, when I let off the gas like I said, I hear the sound kinda pulse once or twice before it settles into a drone.
And I think it is louder at lower gears, but I'm not sure. haha, it's really cold out and when it's really cold I get tons of interior rattles that make it so I can't hear this one very clearly. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to listen a little closer and maybe take my video camera along, hopefully the mic is good enough.

This is a very long shot, but is it at all possible that you're hearing engine backfire? I've re-read your descriptions and it's iffy. Can you see if it happens in reverse gear?

So after listening closely to this, I think it actually is the exhaust. It really only happens between maybe 2900 and 4000 RPM, and is worst in the low 3,000's. I thought it was all the time but it isn't (or at least it's really quiet sometimes). It also isn't always there, and is sometimes worse than other times. So I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it actually is exhaust.
I'm out of town right now with a rental car so I can't see if it makes the sound in reverse but from memory I think it does.
Thanks for the help.

That notorious sound is the resonator on the B pipe that has become loose on the inside. All Civics and Integras suffer from it. There is even a recall for 99-00 Civic Si's because of it.

Thanks for the input. Is there any way to check for sure? Like taking it off and shaking it or something?
It sounds like it's most likely either my cat or that resonator. Any input on aftermarket replacements for these that will last longer, without being significantly louder (and hey, while I'm asking for ridiculous things, maybe make a hp or two)? I noticed a few companies make b-pipes (spoon, t1r, etc). Any good? Or should I just get another OEM one every 5-7 years?
I'm getting old, and I've been DDing my ITR for 10 years, and I'd like to keep it quiet-ish.

This is how I fixed mine. It is GSR but it should help.
It's my old post I did way back

Any how, replaced the B-pipe and muffler with new OEM replacement from Acura. That Pennsylvania salt is no joke, nuts and gasket fused to the metal.
