Default Civic Guru's Please Help 2008 Civic Si Question

Civic guru's one of my very good friends just got rid of his 1995 GSR and was looking at the 2008 Civic Si sedan. He test drove one and loved it except for the exhaust so here are his questions......
So the question is... is it possible to just swap the Si exhaust/muffler/etc with an EX sedan stock exhaust/muffler/etc. How much work would it be? And what kind of issues or effects would it have on the car (check engine lights? loss of power?)? Would this actually accomplish what I'm looking for?

Sorry I just copied and pasted from my email.

Thanks in advance.

The exhaust is very different, I would suggest having a different type muffler put on something with more baffles to quiet the exhaust.

The LX and EX are very different in size and shape, you may be able to just use the muffler after using an adapter on the inlet, the 1.8 exhaust is smaller, but it can be done.

Try asking a muffler shop in your area, I'm sure they can come up with something that will work.

I kinda like the sound of the Si exhaust on the highway, just a slight rumble, I guess your friend wouldn't like riding in my corvette with the dual mode open all of the time.

The Dx, Ex, base all share the R18 motor. The R18 motor has a cat built into the exhaust manifold, the Si does not. The R18 has a section of straight pipe around 3 feet long from cat to the first bend. The k20's looks nothing like that. It is also much larger then the rest.

I'm sure it can be done, but I would not recommend putting a bottle-neck like that on a Si.

Good luck.

Was the exhaust too loud?? I think it sounds perfect... Your friend should look at a different car IMO

Some cars are just too loud I find the civic si just right when it comes to sound.

I had a solstice that was very loud, so I put the gxp exhaust on it, because it had a resonator built in to the system, but it was just as loud after wards.

I was thinking about this question yesterday, I think if your friend wouldn't mind a different outlet besides the si style, on the stock muffler, he could find a muffler with more sound dampening ability's that would fit without making the inlet smaller.

Anything is possible, I wouldn't change a thing about the si exhaust.

An essential aspect of the k20 is how it breathes. Why would you restrict your exhaust? The Si only gets loud when you step on it, and by loud, I mean a slight deep tone.

Most of the cabin noise comes from the intake, the stock air box is about 2 feet from the driver. I really doubt he is hearing much of any exhaust note. Perhaps this car has an HFP muffler on it? Which is a little louder.
