Default OIL smoke after headgasket install on 90 accord?

1990 Accord LX auto

I bought this car with no compression on one cylinder due to a burned exhaust valvle. Aside from the obvious skipping, the engine was running fine with NO smoke.

I removed the cylinder head, replaced the burned valve, installed a new head gasket and put it back together. The skip is gone, it runs fine, but it is smoking like a mosquito truck! It is definately oil smoke. Moreover it puzzles me that I can remove the plug wire from the cylinder that I brought back to life, and it still smokes like crazy.

I rechecked head bolt torque. I don't know how that much oil can be getting into the cylinders. Can anyone think of something that I'm overlooking?
