Bunch of problems with my EG, need some help plz =]
Whats up H-T!
I went from having a perfectly running car to all of a sudden a bunch of problems occurring to it in a short period of time. I'll try to explain in detail what the problem is and ofcourse, any help is greatly appreciated.
Specs: 93 EG, D16y8 motor and a D16z6 Tranny (if you need any more info let me know)
Problem #1 Went from a Stage 3, 6 puck clutch, to a Stage 2 Exedy Kit. Healthy tranny, smooth shifts and no grinds. EXCEPT for 5th gear. I would have to "cram" the shifter almost to a 45degree or 2oclock angle in order to go in. It would never go in smoothly...installed the exedy kit and now 5th doesnt go in at all.
Feels as if it goes maybe only half ways and doesnt engage fully. Tried to shift into 5th with the car stopped and running, with neither working....opened up the tranny, made sure everything was installed right...took the flywheel to get resurfaced hoping this would be the problem and it wasnt...opened it again, this time even opened up the tranny casing to check out the synchros and everything appears fine...dont know what to do...oh and the check engine light came on after I re-installed the tranny. been driving it around on 4 gears for a while now...
Just got accepted to a school half hour away and need to jump on the freeway so if this problem can be fixed in 2 weeks that would be sweeeet.
Problem #2 When I first try to start my car in the morning this happens...
1st try...I turn the key and it wants to start but doesnt...
2nd try...I wait for about 5 seconds, turn the key again and it starts, it revs to about 1 1/2 RPM and then the needle drops slowly and turns off in a matter of 5 seconds.
3rd try....I wait 5 seconds more...then turn the key and it starts fine. lol wtf?
*Remember the CEL is on...
Problem #3 At night time...when I come to a complete stop my RPM needle is below 1k RPM. I say maybe 3/4's of the way up. The motor feels kinda "not loud" like it used to be...as if its lacking power.
I also noticed that when at a red light...if I turn off my headlights (HID's) the needle rises to about the 1...and my engine rev's stronger, you can actually hear it stronger too. As soon I turn them back on, the needle drops to about 3/4s of the way...do the HID retract too much power?

#1 - bad transmission linkage is sloppy or maybe even bent under the car. or the master/slave need to be bled out.
#2 - the fuel could leaking back into the tank overnight draining out the lines so you have to re-prime the system before it will run good. ?
#3 - dont these idle at 800 or something like that when fully warmed up. add a alternator that is fighting to keep up with the lighting at night you get a low idle. when the alternator is strained it will put a drag on the engine.
don't take these as fact just a slightly educated quick guess.

Alrighty, I'm gona try and pull the CEL codes first tomorrow by following your link Ron.
So basically all there is to it is uncoil a paper clip and insert each point into the holes and watch the check engine light from there?
