How to Meaure Bearing Preload?
I'm going to be installing a Quaife LSD into a Prelude transmission that uses taper bearings, so
I have to measure the bearing preload and shim it accordingly.
However, the OEM tool attaches to the shaft between the spider gears, and the Quaife does
not have that. So, how I do dat? Can I just put a nut and bolt through the hole in the
center of the Quaife and attach the torque wrench to that? Or, do I need to do some cutting
and welding of an old axle end to make an adapter? I'm not sure the axle adapter would give
an accurate measurement on the LSD, though...

Don't do the nut/bolt through the diff idea.
Get some rod that has the same diameter as the indents at the end of the diff housing there where the bearing presses on, cut them to length and weld them to a socket. Would work to measure bearing preload for this application. I used a bar stock and welded it into a slotted socket to do a B-series a long time ago. lol Rod would work nicer though.

I even have a bunch of scrap metal in the shed, so I might not have to hunt down anything! It might be a couple days before this gets done, but I'll let you know what route I take and if it works! Thanks again for the quick reply!
