Default Exhaust system hangers

I installed a stainless header and 2 1/2" catback exhaust system in my '91 hatch a year ago. During installation, when the old system was removed I noticed the old (most likely original) hangers were in pretty bad shape so I made a trip to the parts store to see what they had. Replacements were almost identical looking to the originals so I decided to change them all out.

A week or so ago I heard a vibration sound and figured it was exhaust pipe contacting with the chassis somewhere. I jacked it up today and found the rear on the RH side had broken. Taking into consideration the additional weight of the new system vs OEM I thought that could be the cause, so I doubled up on them when replacing this time.

They didn't really look like just weight was the issue. The replacement hangers looked fatigued from age. I'm thinking they are just crappy hangers. Anyone else have this problem?

everyone has that problem, they are 20 year old pieces of rubber exposed to the elements including exhaust temperature extremes. What do you expect from them?

What I removed looked almost identical to what I installed. They were rubber too.

What you are saying is the rubber on the new ones was not as good as the OEM I removed?

That's what I was thinking. Please do confirm.

I agree with you on the shitty hangers - just wanted confirmation on that.

Lubed? I used white grease on the hanger posts to facilitate ease in installation.

What do you mean by "just keep them lubed"? I ask because the polyurethane bushings I installed are lubed at installation and if it starts squeaking, I'll douche it with silicon spray lubricant.

Lubed - please splain?

Ok thanks brother - that's the sanity check I was seeking. I'll pick up a full set of OEM hangers from the dealer.

add a 6 in flex pipe after the header before the "cat" (if applicable) this will help with hanger stress as well as exhaust movement when shifting
