This post is being made because of a real situation that, myself and another member whom can make himself known if he'd like to, have just encountered.
On two seperate occasions, an individual has purchased the exact same OEM discontinued part from a seller, that has disappeared during shipping in route to his location.
What we have learned from this unfortunate scenario, is that sellers need to use caution when shipping items labeled with OEM part numbers. If the wrong individual handling packages for the courier being used is able to recognize a part number or original OEM packaging there is potential for labeled discontinued items to POOOOOF, disappear.
It is truly frustrating that i even have to make this post, but i'd like for others to not find themselves in a similar situation. Use caution when sending your expensive items, and if you have any doubt about the possible disappearance of your goods, be sure to insure them for their purchase amount.
I was smart, and purchased both delivery confirmation, and insurance. If i had not, i would be completely out of the money that these items cost me in the past.
FWIW..... spending a little bit more money to use a more expensive shipping option to ensure your package is delivered safely is worth the few bucks saved.
My recommendations for you all is to do the following:
A) Tear off OEM parts labels or cover them completely with a sold color tape, such as duct tape.
B) Label the box with a marker something random to throw the potential thief off track. Example: If you are shipping floor-mats, label the box something similar in weight and feel such as "Bathroom rug and towel set".
C) Disguise the box used in some form if possible depending on item being shipped. Obviously, some items shapes and sizes cannot be altered. Most actually, i guess this would only work with something like a Trunk or Set of floormats which you could get away with rolling up.
D) Sell local if possible to avoid having to ship in the first place.
I hope this helps others avoid finding themselves in a similar situation. If others have also had a similar situation happen to them, please share your story if you feel as though it may help educate the rest of us.
Thx,
- JD

I was lucky enough that my checkered mats arrived without any issues on December. I received them in their original unopened box and after reading this post I agree that precautions have to be taken when shipping. If we are not careful our precious discontunued parts can get stolen by shady mail handlers. :0(
Jon, thanks for the advice. I recieved a part from Nolan in AZ this summer before expo and it was in an OEM honda box, upon arrival the box had been opened and there were parts missing.. F'ing sucks
-this is little nolan BTW

use ups or fed ex, make sure package is insured fro actual value and ship
i actually had a z06 transmission disappear once..
no kidding, a 150lb transmission
i filed the claim, the fed ex manager was beyond angry, flew to the city it was last at, found the driver and tracked the package to the wrong address. apparently the driver had delivered this transmission to the wrong address.
it's not just type r parts even though you guys are the most paranoid of any car group i know

If anything, ask if you can request another plain box to be used over the OEM Honda Box.
I ship wheels and other OEM items every day, and I double box everything and use very generic descriptions in the Reference #'s to make sure that the contents of the box are basically unknown.
Using an overbox for these items isn't expensive, and it is definitely worth the cost to ensure that the parts actually make it to their destination.

It's pretty sad when people will risk their own jobs to steal parts that they can save up for and buy. My buddy who works at FedEx always says he knows when we get parts because he usually loads them on the trucks and helps the driver deliver them. I never really thought about people who would steal packages especially from their own place of employment. Takes the level of scumbag's to a whole new level honestly.
Yup, I had a set of skunk2 tuner 3 camshafts disappear a couple months back, I got assed out on 330 dollars. I sent it via USPS too, how someone stole them I dunno, but I got tracking and the only thing it said was the package was accepted for shipment. It was in a fan box 2, nuthing skunk2; *********. Insurance is Mando on expensive items IMO.
i always ship fedex with direct signature confirmation, sure it costs a buck or two more but for that 1/50 or 1/100 times something happens its extremely convenient to know who signed for it and when it was delivered, the package will not be delivered without a person to sign for it so a package conveniently going "missing" off a porch is not an option
not too long ago here on ht i sold an itr intake manifold/tb, a few days or a week after it was delivered and signed for the buyer filed a paypal non receipt complaint, i downloaded the delivery confirmation and signature from fedex online and submitted to paypal and that was the end of that nonsense
i have found for normal ground shipping that fedex typically offers the best prices, best prices for more insurance, typically they handle packages the best, and have the most reliable expected delivery date

IMO this wouldn't do any harm becoming a sticky if the mods are ok with it. I'm beyond frustrated with this experience, and sincerely hope this helps others in the future. It is 100% BS.
I had 2 xenocron chips go missing when I sent them to a friend last year. He paid me $20, I sent my chip to him in xenocron packaging and it never made it. I ordered a new one, resent it after I got it, and again it never made it. Sucks because I lost a friend over the ordeal.
