Excessive play in steering wheel/clunking noise
I've searched and I can't really find any answers other than the steering rack. I do not think this is the problem. There is some sort of play/clunking right below my steering wheel. When I hit a bump it will throw the steering wheel all over the place.
Is there some sort of wearable part in the column right where the steering wheel connects? I'm 90 percent sure that's where the noise/problem is coming from. I can try to post a video if it helps. I maybe need a new column, or steering wheel?

Yes I just finished swapping the transmission. The tierods/rack look good. The problem seems to be originating in the column where the steering wheel connects to the column. Anyone have any similiar experiences would be helpful. I'm going to pull off the steering wheel and see if I can't figure out something.
It makes the clunking sound if I move the steering wheel right and left rapidly and the sound is coming from right below the steering wheel. I've heard someone say it was the four bolts that connect the column, but Im hoping it's just the nut that connects the steering wheel to the column.
