Default B20 All-motor exhaust question

In my ek hatch I have a stock b20 bottom end with a a stock CTR head and currently has a stock exhaust manifold (FOR NOW). My question is Im not a big fan of fart cans and was concidering the straight pipe route and id like to know if I need to use a cat to keep back pressure if I were to go straight pipe? I dont want to burn up valves so I thought id ask before I start this project.

THANKS

3inch. Doesn't have to be a brand name exhaust. There are a couple brand name exhaust that perform like ****.

^agree with Ogre.

a 3" pipe all the way no cat with a Apexi WS muffler will perform and you won't have to pay out your azz for a name plate tac welded to it.
The Apexi sounds excellent, no fart can noise

just get a DMH e cutout and run whatever you have now after it, then flip it open when you want to run it hard and make more power than any exhauast

If you don't like the sound of a 'fart can' I'll bet you are going to like it less as a straight pipe. Yes, use a cat if you are running on the street (and no, it has nothing to do with back-pressure, which is a bad thing in any exhaust). Are you most concerned with sound or the extra 1 or 2hp you can get? If you concerned with sound, there are several good chambered mufflers that will still flow decent, like the Greddy WS2. Thermal R&D and Vibrant are also other options to check as well as a few others.

My buddy literally has $100 into his exhaust setup and it performs very good. 3inch glass pack cherry bomb with a 3 inch straight pipe from header to the cherry bomb and a dump right after the cherry bomb (before the gas tank).

$28.99 for the cherry bomb and quoted $70 for the job/piping install.

Well for my paticular taste I dont like the look of a can under a hatch. As far as straight pipe goes couldnt be that bad beings im use to a turbo car with open down pipe. With a straight pipe atleast it wouldnt resinate in the cab.

Cherry bombs almost look stock, but they are quite loud, look up the Apexi WS2, OBX twin loop, or a Vibrant

I use an RS*R ExMag. I still have gobs of power and the car is super quiet. No resonance at all in the car. Don't get any looks from the fuzz either.

Not giving me every last drop of power, but it's a true DD, and I don't ricky race it from light to light.

If your not worried about how loud it is then run a cherry bomb glass pack.

Use resinators, not "CATS"

wanna making power "START" @ a 3''.. dont go anything less....you can put 2 res's in a 3'' exhaust and it'll be quiet as a mouse.

That's the other one I was thinking of, just couldn't remember it.

I will say it again, if you're on the street, use a high-flow cat.
