Default How do I swap a D16Y7 engine into my 99 civic ex?

i have a 1999 civic ex with a d16y8. i believe the motor is blown. i just picked up a 1997 dx with a d16y7 in it. i was wondering if the motors could swap over. what would need to be done to do it. thank you

Yes, it will swap over. My suggestion is to research the motors and find out what is different. Not alot to be honest.

all i want to do is get my 99 running again. i did some research and i know that that blocks are almost the same. i believe its the block of the d16y8 block thats shot. i would like to keep it vtec so i guess my next question is. between both engines. do i have all the parts to just take the d16y7 block but it in my 99 and just put the head of the y8 on it. and be alright.. thank you for your guys help.

it will jst drop right in all you have to do is swap over the intake manifold so the intake will plug right back up & you can get a better air flow on the y7 & gain a bit of power....
GOOD LUCK WITH SWAP

If all you want is a running car just drop the y7 in instead of all the mini me stuff people are tellin you, it requires some mod to get minime running, so its pretty much a drop and go with the y7 I think you can run the motor with the y8 ecu but the will be on

You're going to need to reverse the IACV wiring to make the intake manifold on the d16y7 work but otherwise it's plug and play. If you want to put some work into it, swap the y8 head onto the d16y7, you're just going to need to add a knock sensor.
