i recently came across a set of some skunk2 pro 1 cams. on them the etching say "p1 v2" im assuming that means version 2. anywho i have not had them dialed in the cam gears are at zero and the car has not been dyno tuned. they were pretty much free so i said why not. the block is a stock gsr for now the head is a b16 with pro series valvetrain cam gears 70mm tb manifold. hondata s300 with a base map.
the vtec crossover is pretty much non existent like i have read but my gas mileage had gone down bad. i used to get 31mpg avg with the stage 2 skunks. i have no cel and no other problems. the car runs fine. idle is a bit rough but ive also read these cams will do that. just wondering if anybody else has had this happen to them.

Means your making more power.. you dont build or modify a motor for gas mileage..
Get em tuned, and they shouldn't be @ 0/0 in the first place...stop beating on it.

i know optimum performance is not 0/0 but like i said i just dropped them in. i got like 12mpg which seemed a bit drastic to me. and As far As tuning the motor, my b20 bottom end is almost done and i can't afford to tune this motor and then a month later tune the b20
then dont complain about your tuner not doing what you paid for.
tuning WOT is the easiest fraction of tuning. If this is how it is around the country, its really irritating that you can call yourself a tuner yet only tune the smallest portion of the map and call the engine tuned.
Yea sure, it may go a little bit, but it drives like **** and whats the point in that with a street car?

im not complaining about the tune. i understand its just a base map and not gonna run the best. that didn't change. the only variable that changed was the cam and the fuel consumption increased drastically. that's all i was trying to state. just wanted to sed if that's typicall for the pro series cams

i love how you guys mention how a tune consists of partial throttle as well, i can name a number of shops that only do WOT tuning and call it a day. Not to mention they charge a boatload for their sorry tune
most shops also only have a dynojet which is by far the worst dyno to use for anything but a drag car.

just an update. just to clear the smoke i want to make it clear my problem was never intended to be at the cams. just saying i did a bigger cam instal and my gas mileage went to ****.
so after a brief holiday trip and crazy work weeks, i finally got around to trouble shooting the problem.
at first the only noticeable problem with the car was the gas mileage going to **** but then little by little i started smelling gas. real bad. i installed a fuel pressure gauge and that was fine. the reading was 38psi. then my idle started to go crazy but i assumed it was due to the dumping of fuel not being ignited.
the only thing i could think of would be a big vacuum leak somewhere cause everything else checked out. i sprayed carb cleaner on the injector and intake manifold and i found a problem. i didnt have a red spray nozzle so **** just went every where but i found a leak.
when i was removing the injectors i found that the injector o rings were alot smaller than what i had been used to dealing with so i changed them out anyways with new ones.

then i proceeded to intake manifold. i had a hondata gasket and didnt really think anything was wrong but maybe i didnt tq the bolts right or in teh right order last tiem and they just began to loosen . i completely removed it and come to find out my gasket has a crack connecting two cylinders. so hopefully i found the problem. i took a break to drink a guinness and WATCH THE PATRIOTS GET THIER *** KICKED!!!!! ill be back in a few with an update.

if you're getting 12mpg the car is obviously rich. this isn't good for plugs and creates chamber deposits.
tune the car, problem solved.
base maps are designed to drive from your house to the tuner.

0/0 if anything but right. Find someone that knows how to degree them in properly. Get a good wideband. Then get it properly tuned. At 12mpg you might as well drive a hummer.
Partial throttle is considered tuning. I tune my idle and partial throttle throughout my whole load range before even tuning WOT. I'm talking street tuning.
