Default Integra Soundsystem (Weakest Link) headunit/speakers

I am going to do one or the other, which option would make my system sound nicer.

If speakers, what is the largest that will fit in the stock housings?

If a deck, do the Alpine Navigation/Monitor decks put out good power?

I would either do both at once or do speakers first. An aftermarket head-unit will be higher wattage output and make your stock speakers sound shitty\pop.

start off with a good headunit. Get a kenwood. Dont be stingy.

also... gettin new speakers with a stock headunit is pointless.. you wont be able to hear a difference.. the stock headunit doesn't put out enuf power.

i dunno about kenwood; try different brands and choose one you like. there are lots of quality headunits out there now.

also.. stock speakers are just fine with an aftermarket headunit.. the only way its going to pop is if u turn it up full blast.. and anyhow.. the sound quality is 10X better.

pioneer makes excellent decks. some brands to avoid would be sony Xplod and panasonic and a few other no name brands.

I've upgraded both individually. I did my speakers first, but the difference was negligble. Then I upgraded my HU to a pioneer 7400 mp, MAJOR difference. The pioneer has a mosfet-50 built in amp, and it is more than adequate for me. If you want some decent bass, this thing will give u the power for it. Obviously, if ur an audiophile u'll be getting an external amp etc., but if ur like me the pioneer does the job.

After putting in a new Alpine CD head unit it sounds so much better even with stock speakers as long as it's adjusted right and not turned up too loud.

Even with stock headunit you'll get distortion if turned up to loud.

Head unit and the lack of bass in the stock system. I have a pioneer headunit and 2 10 subs and an amp. It is a world of difference. I took the subs out for a week to see if those heavy things can save me some gas and to see if I can feel the car any faster. The subs have been back in since and will not be out of the car.

No doubt. I bought a new mp3 alpine deck, new component speakers up front(6.4" alpine type R) and there wasn't enough, so I bought 2 10" subs, amp. System sounds good now. Those stock speakers are made of cardboard. Deck sucks.

Good advice, I'm wishing that I'd spent another $2-300 and done it up right the 1st time...

I never quoted before but that is something I read above
here's the deal.......
STOCK SUCKS.........PERIOD

Speakers are always the 1st thing you upgrade, after that you should do the headunit and is possible financially you should do the amplifier(s)......

In my Teg I went with the USD Audio kickpanels and a 6.5" midbass in each door
no rear-fill, and a 10" Alumapro in the rear section of the hatch....
sounds good, costs a bit but only had to do it once, and that was 5 years ago
I upgraded to the alumapro sub this year because I always wanted one, it was nice for $200
hope I helped.....

The SPEAKERS are the weakest link and they are ALWAYS the weakest link. The Acura headunit is manufactured by Alpine and is top notch for a stocker. Stock speakers suck and speak with any car audio guru (I used to be an installer and real fanatic) and we will tell you that speakers are never up to par as compared to the rest of a sound system. They are inefficient and should be the first part to be upgraded if you want to get better sound.

For those of you that think your sound got drastically better when upgrading the head unit, it's only because the aftermarket unit produces more RMS power, so you can crank it louder. Your sound, most likely, is not drastically better, just louder.

X2

Ideally here's what I would like to do:

Replace stock tape deck w/ a factory Acura CD headunit (I also have an Alpine changer in back). Then get some nice speakers powered by an external 4-channel amp, and then maybe a bass tube or small sub in back. How does that sound? I like the idea of keeping the factory look.

I say wait till you can get the head unit and speakers. Don't do one without the other.
