Default How to get those mexican jumping beans out of my tires!

Went to the speedway track this weekend with some friends... Was fun, not too many people their. Anyway my best was a 15.13 with a 2.43 60' time. When launching i was having 2 problems... in the beggining i had mad wheel hope. It was so bad that the ash tray came out and the mirror was pointing all the way down. After droping my tire presure down to 30psi (i didnt want to go any lower becuase the side walls where already clapsing and when i'd shift i could feel the play in the tires. After lowering the tire pressure the wheel hope wasnt as bad but still bad. i tired stiffening my suspension and try'd loosening it... nothing seamed to help. The last 2 runs i smooked thru the wet pit (had to i was in left lane and you cant go around it). This didnt help either. Was wondering what i can do to help stop wheel hop. I have this problem on the streets too if i'm launching.

List of current mods in Sig.

First off on street tires don't pop the clutch. You have to feather it. Also try launching around 3500rpm's. Once again, street tires don't launch higher. Stiff springs in the front will help minimize hop as well. Z-10 bars will also help.

You should be able to get around a 2.1-2.2 60ft on street tires. Also remember that your car doesn't have much power if your only running 15's. Don't expect a 2.1 unless you get more power.

get some z10 radius arms, I have some on my hatch and I barely get any wheel hop if any at all. And dont pop the clutch on try to feather it till you feel your car hook up

well what should a GSR's 60' time be... i was thinking it should be down around 2.2. i last time i went ( a year or so back) i ran a 15.11 at pomona with a 2.62 60'. I had some traction problems then too (shitty tires.... POS nitto's)

try better tires? and different launch.. if you drop the clutch from higher rpm, its very easy to get wheel hop..

or.. you can place stiffer rear springs - not front spings, front traction bars, stiffer mounts..

btw.. what trap speed?

most of my trap speeds where around 90 mph... i have the time slips out in my car i will get them later and post that one run. I was running the Azenis... what could be better besides slicks or cheater slicks? I was launching between 3 to 6K rpm.

From what i hear that track has mad traction problems... a friend of mine with a 66 muffstang ran a 13.4 but also was having to baby the hell out of it on the line.. A guy that was with us had a newer (not sure hwat year ) cobra and the best he ran was a 15.0, traction was deffinitly a problem (well that and he was having fuel problems.. cutting out at 5k) .

I have both the Prothane and ES motor mount inserts, and zero wheel hop.

Oh ya, I also have bilstein shocks and 400 lb springs in the front, that helped a bit too.

i run bf goodrich.. much better than any street tire.. from what i seen 90mph isn't going to get you much higher.. maybe up to 14.8? someone verify this..

and for launches.. just don't let the clutch out completely until your tires get traction..

or.. just spend more money to make more hp..

i would have been happy with a 14.8... i'm not expecting any crazy numbers... i would have been happy to break into the 14's. I dont really plan to do much drag with this car. I just went with a old friend and his Muffstain buddy's. Next time i go i'll try feathering it a bit. I still havnt gone out to get those time slips yet.. i will later in a bit.
