Default Lopey Cams

Ive been looking at many different vtec cams online and noticed most of them don't say how the idle characteristics are..
I have built a few domestic hot rods and love the Lopey idle.. I do understand most aftermarket cams for vtec engines have factory or near factory primary lobes therefore no wild lopey sound..

I am looking for cams cams with that muscle sound.. Please list which cams would have that Lopey sound but still retain vtec for streetability.

As unfortunate as it may seem the entire purpose of VTEC is so that you don't have that 60's muscle car lopey idle.

Your choices as far as I know are;
• Custom cam that you have specifically made with higher lift primaries and even higher lift secondaries.
• VTEC Killer cams or
• Go Non VTEC with some stage 2+ cams.

I've been told that the Skunk2 pro series cams have a more aggressive idle than stock and I was also told the Toda Cs have a Lopey idle.
I'm not sure if any of this is true or not .. It makes sense for the s2 pro series to sound aggressive cause they made the primary lobe a small amount larger to have a less dramatic jump to the larger vtec lobes.

I guess if you're selecting cams on how they lope......... aggressive non vtec cams, in a p8r head. or vtec eliminator cams, but price might not be very nice, just for a "lopey" sound. I dont think you're going to find a vtec cam with enough lope you're looking for.

I think the Skunk2 pro 1 cams have a stock idle with an aggressive secondary lobe. I've heard a set of Skunk2 pro 2 cams in an ITR motor that had the lope, it was there but not tremendous (that could be tuning). VTEC killer cams sound like the pistons are swapping holes at idle. They are the sound you are looking for but I wouldn't advise them for daily driving. There are tons of vids on you tube of different cams like these idling.

Unless you're running VTEC killer cams, LOPE = improperly tuned. VTEC gives the car the advantage of running large and small cams without the poor idle characteristics of the older domestic cars. Trying to get them to "lope" is going backwards....

I'm not really a noob to Honda.. I'm just curious cause I've never owned each cam.
I would never build a performance engine based on sound.

Thanks for the replies!
