Default 2000 Accord- Ignition Switch Problem?

2000 Accord EX Coupe 4-cylinder/ 5-speed. I've had it for about a month, and this is the 1st time it's happened to me:

Stopped to get gas. Tried to start the car and I just heard a 'click' and that was it. No dash lights, no starter... nothing. I tried several times w/ the same result, just without the click. I noticed the clock was the only thing working, and when I turned the key all the way to start, the clock dimmed out and reset! ... Checked under the hood. The 100amp batter fuse and 50amp main fuse were fine. Batter is new. Went back and tried... and it started right away. Radio was showing 'code' indicating a loss of battery. That's really WEIRD. I wouldn't think the ignition switch could disconnect the battery, but what else could it be? 1st time I've seen this in ANY of the cars I've driven in the last 30 years!

Are the battery connections clean and tight?

It's a new battery with some corrosion on the positive lead. I cleaned both posts; we'll see if the problem comes back...
