Default Wiper blade installation...having a harder time then it should be.

Either I'm making it harder for myself or im an idiot.

I'm having a hard time installing my wiper blades. I was told the wiper arm is a J-Hook type arm but on Rain-X's website, it says the 91 hondas are bayonet arms? I recently took the arms off my car to spray paint them black since they were peeling so I dont know if that could be the problem? What happens is; the wiper blade (I bought J-Hook blades) doesnt fit properly on the arm so it slips off and falls off completely when I turn the wiper blades on.

My question is:

Are the 91 EF's J-hook style arms? Is rain-x's website wrong?
Could me spray-painting the arms black have anythign to do with having a hard time installing the wiper blades?

Painting them black should have nothing to do with it. i painted mine black too. Hondas use a j-hook not a bayonet style.

Okay. Installing J-Hook blades is as easy as snapping it in?

But I bought J-Hook arms and it looks like the part that clips into the Wiper blade arm is too small?

There are different adapters for different size J-hooks btw.

Most J-hook arms are all the same size, but if you go into Autozone they'll usually let you dig through the box(es) of free adapters they have. Some Chryslers, for example, use a design that snaps over top of the normal J-hook so it's thicker.

I see. Alright I'll stop by my autozone and try that out. Do you think EF's have different sized adapters then standard? I guess so...

Doubtful. Can't remember the last time I changed wipers on a 4G Civic though.

I'm certain '92-'00 Civics all use the standard size wipers. So do '88-'91 Preludes, '90-'97 Accords and pretty much every other "modern" Honda I've ever changed wipers on. In fact, I can't remember having ever changed wipers on ANY Honda/Acura and the car not having the standard size J-hook design.

Keep in mind that there are some wipers that are more difficult to work with than others. Some of the newer wipers, in particular the tension type ones, have kind of bizarre adapters on the wiper blade itself. Some adapters are meant to be used with multiple types of wiper arm designs.

This site goes over how to install the Rain-X Latitude wipers, which are tension type wipers, on different wiper arm styles.

What sort of wipers are you working with, OP? Pics could make this a lot easier if you could post them.

I took some pictures.

Notice how the part that the hook clips on to appears to be to small? The adapter on the wiper blade doesn't fit onto the arm and it looks like the wiper blade adapter is to small.

You can return the wipers saying they didn't fit your car or you can go back and ask the parts store to put them on or you can ask for the correct adapters.

If you bought the wipers at a parts store, go back and ask for help.

A adapter DOES belong on the wiper blade. The black plastic piece is the adapter. You need a different one.

EVERYONE asks for wipers, bulbs and batteries to be installed at my store.

I honestly probably change more parts for men than for women. Always sweet when a cute young women comes in and gives me a hug for helping with her lights though.

Im thinking youre just not holding it right, posts a pic of how your trying to snap them together

I can pull and install mine in 4 seconds including scratching my ***, doesnt get any easier

Im guessing you just dont have it oriented right

your sliding the "j" hook over the wiper snap piece right? in the photo the wiper arm j hook slides over that connector. not into it.
