Default EK. Black interior?

Did EK/EM1's come with a black interior? I have the grey, but I would like a black, or dark dark grey. I can't seem to find it, but i've seen pics with of ek9's with dark black and red inserts.. was that special just for the ek9? or are those custom/sprayed interiors?

Black interior only came in japan or uk spec, in America we only have light and dark gray interior for 96-00 civic. I am not sure about 96-98 models, but for sure for 99-00 civic hatchbacks. If you would like to have black interior, there are other option (ie vinyl) or go jdm with rhd conversation.

damn, i would love nothing more than an rhd, but I cant afford that right now. I can get the majority of the panels in black but i'd have to do something to the dash to make it match..

Black interiors (and the Type-R Black/Red interior) were only available overseas. The CTR interior was, obviously, only available in Japan.

The US EM1 had the same Classy Gray (dark gray) interior color available for other US coupes.

US '96-'00 Civics had the following color interiors:

1996-2000 DX coupe
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1996-2000 EX coupe
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1996-2000 HX coupe
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray (available for 1996 only)
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1999-2000 Si coupe
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1996-2000 CX hatch
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray (available for 1996-1997 only)
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1996-2000 DX hatch
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray (available for 1996-1997 only)
- TYPE K / Classy Gray / Dark Gray

1996-2000 DX sedan
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray
- TYPE P / Medium Taupe / Tan

1996-2000 EX sedan
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray
- TYPE P / Medium Taupe / Tan

1998-2000 GX sedan
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray

1996-2000 LX sedan
- TYPE F / Excel Charcoal / Light Gray
- TYPE P / Medium Taupe / Tan

The interior color is tied to the exterior color. For example, all the red coupes and hatches (Milano Red on coupes and Roma Red on hatches) had TYPE K interiors.

For the love of god. Don't convert your car to right hand drive.

Not only does it make your car unsafe, but it also will never fit right. If you want a black interior you don't need to ruin the functionality of your car to do it. Just find a honda forum in France, Germany, or Belgium and see if you can find someone who would want to get you a black junkyard interior and ship it to you. It would be less expensive than a RHD conversion and you'd save yourself the hassle and functionality of your car.

I have some of the dark gray dash bits, as I ordered the wrong color (who would have thought charcoal was light gray?) It be tough to tell it's not black unless you compared the two side by side. I'll try to get some pics, because I've been meaning to put them up for sale for a while now.

Dark gray looks no where near dark enough to pass for black.

EK forever, I didn't say I wanted to convert to RHD. I would LOVE and RHD, but I wouldn't do a conversion.

AutoXer - send me a message with what you have.

NOFX - excellent information. Thank you.

I agree. I have a Classy Gray (TYPE K/Dark Gray) interior and there's no way it'd be mistaken for black.

Agreed. With pieces like gauge bezel and climate console and whatnot being an actual black color it's pretty easy to tell.

There is one damn good looking interior that was painted with the SEM vinyl dye and had minimal if any problems with chipping.

I'll try to find the link when I get a longer break at work.

^^^^^ This is a great thread! I did the same thing. It really isn't that hard, and mine has held up for almost a year now.

Yeah IIRC the only spots he had problems were normal wear spots from seats rubbing center console. That's an easy touch-up though. OP if you choose that route...it's all in the prep work.

What you need is a black LHD EK4 interior. It was available all over mainland Europe.

Agreed, I had a friend who did this on his civic. He sold it to another friend who had it for probably 4 years and it still looked good. But as twofaced stated, it's alllllll in the prep. Clean and scuffed parts.

LHD EK4s were available in Europe in both hatchback and sedan forms. All had black interiors. Try eBay.de.

If you are close to the northern border, Ive seen the Canadian only Acura EL (basically an ek Acura) come with actually black interiors on the premium version. If you can find a part out near by that would be easy but I believe the El only came 4door
